Continue ReadingSunday was the 2019 PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Camp. It was the biggest camp the company has ever had and it was loaded with talent all day in Romeoville! We will have coverage all week from our staff of writers that were in the house. Here are Scott’s Underclassmen Standouts!
Kam Craft (Buffalo Grove – 2022)
Craft was outstanding at PrepHoops Top 250. The highly regarded wing played even better than we had seen him previously. Had a few spinning layups and was just dynamic attacking with purpose for scores at the cup. Rebounded very well on both ends of the floor. Crisp setting up his jump shot which he hit from three.
Donovan Jones (Solorio – 2022)
Jones is a big bodied combo guard that can flat out score it! He is a natural scorer that seeks out points. Goes right at his defender scoring on euro steps, runners, and layups in acrobatic fashion. Pushed in transition. Showed he can be a capable shooter moving forward.
Sam Lewis (OPRF – 2023)
Hello Mr Lewis! We are just starting to find names in the 2023 class. Lewis is definitely one we will track this season. OPRF has been known for having lengthy wings with athleticism. That is exactly was he brings to the table. The small forward has an extremely projectable game. Loved what he brought to the table defensively getting in passing lanes where he stole the ball and went the other way.
Christian Meeks (Homewood Flossmoor – 2022)
Meeks is a tough and high-motor wing that brings the energy non-stop! In a game full of highly ranked 2022 prospects it was Meeks who always seemed to be around the ball and making plays. Excellent defender that uses his physical body and smarts to get under his opponents skin. Blocked shots and hit the glass on both ends. Offensively he made plays in the open floor and hit a three.
Timaris Brown (St. Patrick’s – 2022)
Brown was a standout at this camp last year and once again put together a noteworthy performance. Quality size on the perimeter and he has a crafty game. Sees the floor as a passer and can handle it in space getting to the rim.
Miles Casey (St. Ignatius – 2022)
Casey is the next in a long line of quality point guards at St. Ignatius. The lefty is a high IQ player that can let it fly and plays with toughness. Had 30 points in his first game of the day, but was later sidelined with broken nose.
Tye Banks (Springfield Lanphier – 2022)
Banks ranks among the top 10 2022 prospects in Illinois and he showed exactly why. Powerful two guard that gets downhill with strength. He consistently got in the lane and scored buckets finishing through contact. Burst with the ball in his hands.
Robbie Avila (Oak Forest – 2022)
Avila was the most impressive young prospect all day. The Oak Forest 6’8” power forward was spectacular with the way he scored at will. Skilled face up four that stretches the floor with his shooting. He did just that connecting on an array of triples. We have always known that was a strength, but the #5 2022 prospect in the state showed much more including improved athleticism. Ran the floor so fluidly for buckets, moved laterally defensively, and swatted shots. So efficient with everything that he does!
Suliman Agiste (Michelle Clark – 2022)
This young big man has a ton of untapped potential. All arms and legs! Will need to add strength, but there is a lot to like here. He is extremely active as a rebounder on both ends of the floor. Shot blocking presence. Offensively he flashed a couple quick moves which makes you think with more work he can be a problem down low in a couple years!
Khalil Ross (Lincoln Way East – 2023)
Another 2023 that put his name on our radar was this rangy 6’5” forward. The lefty had a clean pull up jumper. Quick to the glass as he wasn’t afraid to stick his nose in the paint against taller opponents.
Xavier Amos (Whitney Young – 2022)
This was my first look at Amos. The 6’7” forward has insane length and explosion around the hoop. Several times he just used his second jump to get on the glass and put it in the hoop. His projectable tools are off the charts. Kid could be next Whitney Young wing to track at the D1 level.
