The defensive intensity in the workout was something that you don’t see on a regular basis, these youngsters love to defend at a high level even before the season starts. Don’t be surprised to see Westover make a deep run in the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs as they have all the tools to be successful which includes high level coaching from George Stackhouse who is one of the best coaches in the state.
2020 Forward Traymond Willis-Shaw: He’s a name that you already know from previous seasons and he will be a player that will need to bring some leadership on both ends of the floor. Over the summer he saw his recruitment heat up as he picked up offers from SC State and Radford, with some MM programs showing some interest in him. If he can stay locked in and play to his potential, he will have a nice selection of schools to choose from at the end of the year.
2021 Guard D’Marco Dunn: The new transfer in from Arizona is a player that college coaches will want to go ahead and put on their radar. At 6’4 with a nice midrange game, athleticism and a quick first step, you can see why it doesn’t take long for an evaluator to notice him. UTEP is already a program that extended an offer, and we expect him his recruitment to heat up even more as he gets the opportunity to showcase his ability on this side of the country.
2021 Guard Darius Jewell: Last season he was known as a three point specialist, and we can expect to see more of that from him this season as well as some added responsibility. He seems to be taking more of a leadership role on the court and is making more plays for himself and others off the dribble.
2021 Guard Jovon Harbin: Transfered in from Terry Sanford HS, he can knock down shots from deep and showed some potential of being a good defender. Should be a solid contributor over the next two years for Westover as he will only get better with continued work.
2021 Forward/Center Elijah Hayes: Still has a ways to go but has some upside and shows some flashes of how good he can be. Rebounding, blocking shots and running the floor are all things he does well, he’s a project player that should be solid before it’s all said and done.
2020 Guard Manas Drummond: Showed some flashes of how good he can be toward the end of last season and over the summer. Does a nice job of breaking down defenders and making plays, what we truly appreciate about him is that he has a chance to be is just as efficient on the defensive end of the floor when he’s locked in.
2020 Guard Terrez Fryer: One of the better defenders on the squad, we have been impressed with him throughout the summer. He has outstanding lateral quickness and quick hands that allows him to come up with a nice amount of steals and deflections. On the offensive side of the ball he uses his speed to blow past defenders and make plays, should be a solid contributor for Westover.
