Most Outstanding Player: Garrett McRae, 2020, Scotland
Garrett McRae was the biggest standout prospect at the PrepHoops North Carolina Top 250 on Saturday. He took over during the expo and put on a show with his ability to score on all three levels, off the catch and off the dribble. He led his team with his ability to make plays for himself on others and showcased his ability as a solid college prospect. On defense, he was a pest on the ball, ripping the ball away from the offense on multiple occasions.
Mr. Floor General: Gunner Walters, 2022, Mount Tabor
Gunner Walters was Mr. Floor General of the expo with his ability to set the tone and run his team. Walters was fearless in leading the way for his squad, breaking down his defender in the pick-and-roll and hitting the roll man. He was equally impressive in the pick-and-pop game with big man Davis Blackwell. Walters didn’t hesitate to go back at the top point guards in the expo, either, with his shifty handles and impressive floor game. He was a top-notch floor general all expo long.
The Sharpshooter: Shaylen Woodberry, 2020, Mount Tabor
Shaylen Woodberry was another prospect out of Mount Tabor that turned heads. He’s got great length and used it well to get out on the wing and spot up for open 3-pointers throughout the expo. Every time I looked up, Woodberry was leaking out on the break and finding his spot on the wing or in the corner to knock down 3 after 3 for his team. The 6-foot-2 guard showed off from behind the arc and made multiple 3-pointers to show off his sharpshooting skills.
Mr. High Flyer: Tylan Green, 2020, Sanderson
If coaches are looking for a prospect with a high motor and a knack for finishing everything with a dunk, 2020 forward Tylan Green is your guy. Green showed off his athleticism and ability to jump out the gym every chance he got with his ability to finish above the rim with authority. He kept the gym electrified with his ability to run the floor on both ends, block shots and finish above the rim, no matter who was jumping with him. Green is a prospect due to get a lot of late recruiting looks.
Mr. Fundamental: Davidson Hubbard, 2020, Ardrey Kell
Ardrey Kell has quite the forward prospect in Davidson Hubbard. He was dubbed Mr. Fundamental, showcasing his solid footwork around the rim, relentless rebounding ability and underrated ability to finish strong at the rim. Hubbard set the tone early on in the expo against some of the other big men in the camp with stellar post moves and patience around the rim. He’s a prospect that coaches should get eyes on, especially given his size at 6-foot-5.
Best Big Man: Jonas Aidoo, 2020, Voyager Academy
Jonas Aidoo was the top big man prospect at the expo with his knack for finishing strong in the paint, block shots on defense and ability to knock down 3-pointers. Aidoo showed off an advanced ability to finish strong in the paint given his height at 6-foot-11. He didn’t hesitate to stretch the defense with his ability to knock down shots around the midrange and beyond the arc, either. He’s a player that’s still developing, especially his ball-handling skills, which he didn’t hesitate to show off, either. It will be interesting to see how he continues to develop.
Best Freshman: Jordan Vick, 2023, Southern Nash
There were a solid number of freshman at the PrepHoops Top 250 Expo and the best of them was Jordan Vick. Vick is already emerging as quite the prospect with his ability to score on all three levels and defend at a high level. He made a number of big plays for his squad and defended the ball at a high level and even made some huge blocks at the rim, showing off his athleticism as well. Vick is a player due to make waves in the 2023 class.
