Throughout this week, I’ll be taking a look at some players to watch who have are already confirmed to attend. I’ll now move to the 2021 guards.
Devin Ceaser | 5’11 | St. Mary’s Ryken
Ceaser used last year’s event as a springboard for a big high school season that has rolled over into this past spring and summer. Most recently, Ceaser was a standout at the DMV Elite 80. At last year’s event, he pretty much scored however he wanted. Time after time, he blew by his defender and finished around the rim even through contact. When he wasn’t getting into the paint, he was breaking down his defender and burying jumpshots from mid-range and deep. He’l look to repeat that effort throughout this year’s expo.
Erik Reynolds II | 6’2 | Bullis
Reynolds is someone coaches will admire right away because of his ability to impact the game on the defensive end. He’s a pesky on ball defender and has showcased sharp anticipation in the passing lanes to get deflections or steals and spark transition opportunities. Offensively, Reynolds is a team player. Bullis promotes ball movement in the half court, so he is used to being patient and finding open teammates.
Nurideen Taylor | 6’1 | Clarksburg
Taylor was a standout at last year’s event. The 6-foot-1 guard scored consistently in transition and got it going quickly from beyond the arc. He’s a guy who is capable of hitting three or four straight from deep. With that being said, he doesn’t force the issue as a shooter. Taylor also plays with decent vision and can read defenses quickly to find the open man.
Vincent Payne | 6’2 | St. Maria Goretti
Payne has a tremendous opportunity to put people on notice at the expo for what’s to come this season. As Goretti lost a slew of seniors, Payne is one of the returners that will be expected to step in and produce as a starter. The 6-foot-2 lefty can fill it up from deep and has underrated athleticism. His wide shoulders and long arms make him an effective defender when contesting shots and playing in the passing lanes.
Jalen Bryant | 6’0 | John Carroll
Bryant was an unsung hero of sorts for the Patriots last year. As a team they struggled due to their roster filled with freshmen and sophomores, but he was one that took the leadership role as the point guard and made things happen as a facilitator and slasher. Bryant is a tough-nosed guard that likes to defend the ball beyond half court and force turnovers. This stage should be set up well for him to prove his worth.
