It was an event that had plenty of returning faces but what really stood out was the new faces that made stood out from not only Colorado but other states as well. In the article we take a look at some of those familiar faces that are on our rankings list that now made a push to rise even higher after a good showing. Here are five prospects from the 2021 class that had a solid showing.
Cooper McBride – Douglas County – 2021
McBride is a player that you will want to watch moving forward as he is a wing player that you can put down low and he is going to feast. He has solid size and uses his 6’6 frame to score in a variety of ways, he is a nimble big guy that is finesse around the basket but just as good as he is downlow with that footwork he is able to get it going from deep as well. He has a nice shooting stroke, can mix it up from deep or mid-range as well and he has a good feel for the game. He scored in bunches and when other players tried to attack him he held his own on the defensive end as well. McBride is going to be a player that I feel like will have some huge scoring games out of nowhere and when he gets into a rhythm can get going. I liked what I seen from him at the showcase and I expect him to be one of the leading scorers in the conference this season as a junior.
Tayzhean Archuleta – Harrison – 2021
Archuleta was one of the most versatile prospects at the entire event as he was able to dribble, showed great vision, shot the ball from deep and also defended positions 1-5 which made one of the college coaches ask me, “what position would you put him at?” The interesting part is, I am unsure because he does so many things well that he can play multiple. But that was the great thing about his game, he can fit almost every single situation and still make the best plays. He is a two-way player that scored well but also rebounded well and got to his spots. In these kind of events it is interesting to see players in a free-for-all format as they sometimes need a role to standout, not Archuleta. He can play in the half-court set as well as create on his own and is a player that we have to take seriously moving forward.
Brad Kerr – Denver East – 2021
Kerr came to the event and was able to make a name for himself simply by doing the right things on the floor. He does not force many things, he does the small things such as passing and setting a screen, moving without the ball and soon as it is swung to him he is either ready to shoot it or get it right out of his hands to the open man. He is a high IQ player that’s numbers will not jump off of the screen but is difficult to take off of the floor because he is doing so many of the right things that it makes it difficult to not want him out there. He rebounds and is not a liability on the defensive end and he stepped up to the challenge a couple times on defense while also knocking down a few shots. Good event for the Denver Prep league kid.
Izayah Elize – Frederick – 2021
Elize came into the weekend with a mission and accomplished just that as he was a player that was not necessarily on the scene and is now a player that I am thrilled to follow and watch this upcoming season. He does a bit of everything and he is also an athletically gifted guard that brings the best out of others on the floor. He is a two-way versatile defender that can guard multiple positions, uses his athleticism for rebounds and he started breaks and either finished with a basket or the right pass. Elize can score the basketball with ease and is a high IQ player that turned plenty of heads at the showcase. Solid weekend.
Quint Geck – Rock Canyon – 2021
Cool name, better game. Geck is a player that can truly score the basketball with ease. He played at all three levels and his ability to move the defense with his jump-shot only opened up the rest of his game. After that he was pump faking and getting to the basket, passing and getting it right back for open shots and also just starting the break himself. Geck is a player that you can give to in isolation as well as pick and roll situations and good is going to come out of it because he makes the right play and has so many places he can go with his ability to shoot it from anywhere on the floor. He got to the rim and finished and also showed off his fluid jump-shot. Remember the name.
