The 250 expos are truly a great opportunity to see tons of new players and guys that may not get as much recognition due to them being under the radar. Many times, under the radar guys don’t attend traditional powerhouse high school programs or play on shoe sponsored club teams, but they can definitely play nonetheless.
Under the radar performers:
Brother duo: 2020 Luke Allen and his younger brother 2022 Jack Allen were both standout performers at this year’s 250 expo. Luke is a 6’2 guard that has a legitimate chance to play small college basketball. He will be ranked in the top 50 for the 2020 updated rankings due to his shot making ability and aggressiveness as a 6’2 guard. His brother Jack has a very similar ability to make difficult shots under pressure. He was able to get to the midrange and make contested shots with confidence. Both players star at Cedar Park Christian School.
2022 6’0 G Tayshawn Colvin out of Liberty High School (Spangle) was solid throughout the event as well. He is strong and aggressive and looks to make plays by getting to the paint. He is an above average shooter and appears to be ready for a pretty big year for Liberty this winter.
2020 6’2 G Wendell Davis got it done on Saturday and fit right in with the talent around him. Wendell is strong and a really good athlete all around. The Bellarmine Prep guard has been performing well for his high school team for some time, but he should have a very good senior season and garner some college interest. He will check in the top 50 for the 2020 class in the updated rankings.
2021 6’6 SF Carter Korab (Jackson HS) was solid on Saturday and competed hard every possession. While he didn’t have many plays that “wow’d me”, I liked how he was pretty consistent game by game and it was clear to see that he will only get better with time. He is a good shooter and makes sound decisions with the ball in his hands.
2021 6’2 SG Sam Phillips made the trek from Cashmere, WA and really caught my eye as one of the most fundamental players in the event. He has very good shooting form to go along with great footwork and balance on his shot. Sam rarely turned the ball over and he did little things to help his team win whether it was playing physical defense or attacking the basket. Cashmere High School does not get tons of publicity being a 1A school, but Sam is deserving of getting more looks.
2020 6’2 SG James Wildish (Yelm HS) was easily one of the best shooters in the event. James has a smooth lefty stroke and he only needs a tiny bit of space to get a good look at it. He doesn’t force the issue and he really plays a nice fundamental game. He should definitely be getting some D3/NAIA looks. *Feature image
