In year’s past, the event has featured future NBA stars such as Russell Westbrook, Demar Derozan, Brandon Jennings and Jrue Holiday. This year many attendees tried to build up the hype and follow in the footsteps of those before them. Several athletes played well and some stood out amongst the bunch. Here are a few of the standout guards from Pango’s All West Frosh Soph Camp:
Mikey Williams (San Ysidro, 2023)
Mikey Williams was doing usual Mikey things on the court all weekend long. The much acclaimed 2023 guard lived up to the hype as he put on a show every time he stepped on the court. Mikey’s elite athleticism is out of this world for a player his age. Williams possesses an array of moves and dribbles which allows him to get any shot he wants and lets him get to the rim at will. He also possesses 3pt range and shows potential to consistently score from outside off the dribble. Mikey has superstar written all over him and will attract crowds for ages.
Kylan Boswell (Colony, 2023)
Kylan Boswell is the next big thing to hit the Inland Empire! Boswell had his full repertoire on display at Pangos/Frosh Soph Camp. On offense, Boswell has superior ball handling skills. He is able to use his silky smooth cross over to create space for himself to get off a jumper, or to get open at the rim. Boswell has great size standing at 6 ft tall, and has down hill ability to get the the hole. Rounding out his offensive arsenal is his court vision and passing ability. On defense, Kylan has good lateral movement and isn’t afraid to guard the best player on the opposing team. He shuffles his feet well to stay in front of his man. Boswell is an excellent 2 way guard that has superstar potential.
Dylan Andrews (Windward, 2022)
Dylan was one of the more impressive point guards this weekend at Pangos. Andrews is a scoring guard with high major potential. He plays with a high motor and consistency. Throughout all the camp games and including the Top 40 games, Andrews displayed his high IQ, lead guard ability, and will to score. He doesn’t need a lot of dribbles to score and doesn’t waste his moves. He is a crafty guard who has great body control and knows how to get into the seams of the defense. Andrews was offered last week by Arizona, which adds to his current list of offers which includes USC, UCLA, and others.
Angelo Kambala (Coronado, 2023)
Kambala was one of the prospects who came into this camp and made a huge name and impression for himself. Very young and full of potential, Kambala played like an experienced lead guard. He has very good acceleration and body control which allows him to get by his man. Angelo also has a smooth jumper in his arsenal which extends to the 3pt line. For a player his age, Kambala showed excellent IQ and decision making. He reads the defense well, assesses the situation on the fly, and knows when to pull up for 3 vs pulling up midrange. Jaden Hardy already draws the scouts and media out to Coronado HS and they will soon see the gem that is Angelo Kambala.
Barrington Hargress (Ribet Academy, 2022)
Hargress is the epitome of consistency. The Ribet Academy guard played with a very high motor and was consistent in his performance through the weekend. Hargress has a mastery of the mid range game. He showed both the ability to catch and shoot from 15 and also off the dribble and creating for himself in the mid range. Barrington’s mid range ability opens up his game to get to the rim as he was able to use pump fakes and head fakes to get easy layups inside. Hargress is a young prospect who should be worth keeping an eye on as he is a part of the surging Ribet Academy program that keeps getting better and better.
