This weekend that vicinity is Portland and the Prep Hoops Oregon Expo. For most of these players, this will be my first opportunity to verify what I’ve seen on film. In this article PH takes a look at some of those players in the C/O 2020.
Erik Fraser 6’4 SG Grant (#30 PHO 2020) – Fraser is a shooter. He had my attention when I saw him hit a Dirk like Flamingo Fadeaway. He moves well without the ball. Fraser is one of the best relocation shooters I’ve seen on film. Interested in seeing what type of defender he is.
Jamison Guerra 5’11 PG Sherwood (#23 PHO 2020) – I’m a big fan of confident PG’s. Guerra is that. Only 5’11, however he competes for rebounds, against much larger players. Guerra has a nice floater game. He showed the ability to finish over larger more athletic players. Good playmaker. Guerra delivers on time and on target passes. I’m interested in seeing his shooting, and his foot speed up.
Matthew Levis 6’1 PG Jesuit (#55 PHO 2020) – Levis is a shifty PG with a high IQ. He plays with a fabulous pace. Great handle. Levis’ bag includes crossover dribbles and quick COD’s. Expect several jaw dropping moves from him. There is only one thing I’m interested in seeing from Levis, and that’s a head to head matchup verses Guerra.
Tucker Pellicci 6’11 C Franklin (#36 PHO 2020) – Size is always at a premium, however Pellicci has plenty of that. A big physical post that finishes around the rim. Good rebounder. Two things I want to see from Pellicci. Can he switch ball screens? Can he protect the basket? Show the ability to do either, and Pellicci’s stock will rise.
Keegan Shivers 6’4 SG Wilsonville (#63 PHO 2020) – Shivers has good size to play the wing. He has a quick trigger and is a threat anywhere on the floor. His shooting forces defenders to close hard. Shivers uses that threat to penetrate and get paint touches. Nice post game. Shivers has shown the ability to be a versatile scorer. I’m interested in seeing if he can create plays for his teammates.
Jesse White 6’1 PG Barlow (#2 PHO 2020) – White highlights the depth of talent on display at the Oregon Expo. The #2 player in the state is a pure PG with a tight handle. He gets his shot off quickly off the dribble, and is excellent moving without the ball. White currently holds an offer from D2 powerhouse Western Oregon.
Brian Goracke 6’5 SF Churchill (#5 PHO) – Goracke is one of the state’s high flyers. The 6’5 wing sprints the floor like a deer and is an exceptional run and jump athlete. The majority of the film that I’ve seen on Goracke is dunk highlights. I’m really interested to learn more about his other strengths.
