Impressive shooters to me are guys that can hit shots in catch-and-shoot situations and while stationary. I also look for guys that can do more than just shoot, including distribute the ball or score from different levels. Finally, court awareness is another area I look at as I don’t like players that pull up from college range when they clearly cannot hit a shot from that far out.
Jaidon Lipscomb (2020) 6’3 Dohn Prep
The former Pick Central guard played quite well on Saturday, especially with his sharpshooting abilities. A quick release and great follow through, Lipscomb was able to knock down shots in catch-and-shoot situations as well as off the dribble. I think he is going to be a really nice 2 guard at Dohn Prep next year and will continue to impress colleges.
Tre Beard (2020) 5’11 Chillicothe
While it took some time for him to get started, Beard heated up very quickly on Saturday. Early on defenses kept him in check, but Beard quickly relocated across the court and knocked down multiple shots. More of a catch-and-shoot type of player, he is going to mold well with a nice lineup Chillicothe will have this Winter.
Elias Palmer (2020) 6’2 Elyria Catholic
Palmer was one of my favorite shooters solely because he was able to knock down tough shots throughout the day. He was able to hit shots all over the court and especially impressed me by hitting shots through contact right in front of me. He especially did a nice job of relocating on the perimeter and finding open space to shoot.
Derrick Hardin (2020) 6’2 Worthington Christian
Hardin was one of the best shooters on display. Able to make shots on the move or stationary, he is a dangerous perimeter threat. What I especially liked was Hardin was able to score in other ways than just a jump shot, showing off his toughness by utilizing the dribble drive. Combine him with D.J. Moore and this Worthington Christian team is going to be something special come November.
Tahleik Walker (2020) 6’4 Pickerington Central
By time we got to the last game of the day yesterday, most guys were tired and shots were not falling. Walker didn’t get the memo as he was still hitting shots late Saturday. He was able to knock down several shots in transition and has a quick release which made it difficult for defenders to take him out. Possessing some very nice range, Walker is a guy worth keeping an eye on for Pick Central.
