With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top duos in Class A:
Mandan: Jaxton Wiest and Elijah Klein
This is arguably the best duo in the state as the two may represent the best at their respective positions in Class A. Wiest led the WDA in assists per game as a junior and should see an uptick in scoring with two double-figure scorers gone to graduation. Beyond his scoring, he’s really good defensively and gets his teammates involved as well as any guard. Klein could be the Player-of-the-Year in the WDA after averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds as a junior. He’s unstoppable at times and is even bigger and stronger than he was last year. He’s in for a monster year.
Dickinson: Jaiden Wright and Kobe Krenz
Dickinson could be one of the most improved teams in the WDA and the guard pairing of Wright and Krenz gives them an advantage against a lot of people. The two combined to average better than 31 points per game last year on pretty good efficiency. If they can continue to advance in their all-around games and improve on ball security, they could lead Dickinson to a special season.
West Fargo Sheyenne: Blake Berg and Tyler Terhark
The Mustangs have a really solid starting five and a bevvy of young talent in the program. A lot of their hope this season rests in the duo of Blake Berg and Tyler Terhark. Both guys are among the best in the EDC. They combined to average about 26 points per game a year ago and after a solid summer playing with ECI, they look poised to take another step this winter.
Grand Forks Red River: Brady Dvorak and Will Obioha
This duo might be the best two-way duo in Class A. Dvorak is one of the top point guards in the state and is arguably the best defender on the ball. He averaged 15 points and four assists a year ago and he was terrific over the summer, showing his ability as a floor-general type. Obioha has the versatility to guard four or five different guys on the court and has the talent to take a huge jump this winter into the elite tier in the league.
