In the last few years, they have produced several talented prospects including current Washington Wizards player Troy Brown Jr. There’s a culture of winning around this program. This season should test that culture. They’re losing their top 3 scorers, their best inside presence and one of the rising juniors in the city. Despite the losses, Centennial has positioned itself as a program that doesn’t focus on rebuilding, but simply reloads. In this article PH takes a look at some of their key players.
Head Coach: Noah Hartstock 3rd Season
Conference: 4A Mountain
Key Returners:
Craig Comanche 6’0 SG 2021 (PHN #15 C/O 2021)–Dribble right spin back. Perhaps no player in the city has a more predictable move than Comanche, but it’s effective. Combo guard that’s going to get an opportunity to show what he can do. Drive first scorer. He can get you buckets in a hurry. Comanche’s going to get a chance to play some point this season. If he can get others involved, it should go a long way to Centennial having a successful season.
Austin Anderson 6’0 SG 2020 – The coaches are high on Anderson, who is also one of the best Volleyball players in the state. High energy player, and a knock down shooter, Anderson uses his Volleyball bounce to get excellent lift on his shot.
Xakime Milton 5’9 PG 2021 (PHN #35 C/O 2021)– I followed Xakime all summer on the grassroots circuit and it looks like he’s grown a few inches. Quick PG that excels at getting into the lane. His development could drastically change the outlook of the team. If he can prove to be a solid 1, Anderson and Comanche will be freed up to score.
Key Newcomers:
Shane Thomas 6’2 SG 2022 – Thomas technically isn’t a newcomer, however I expect him to make a huge splash this season. He’s had a terrific grassroots season and is poised to make a name for himself throughout the city. 3 and D guy that’s a weapon as a shooter. With so many perimeter playmakers, I expect Thomas to get his share of open looks.
Robert Sherman 6’0 SG 2020 – I think it’s fair to say the one thing that this team doesn’t lack is shooting. Sherman is a specialist. Quick trigger, knock down shooter. Only needs half a second to get a shot off. When he plays with confidence he becomes a machine. Sherman is another in a talented group of shooters for the team.
Josh Waddell 6’5 PF 2021 (PHN #23 C/O 2021)– Waddell is another player that’s benefited from a terrific grassroots season. He’s got a soft touch around the rim, and a face up game out to about 15. Waddell is a decent rim protector that should provide rebounding and an inside presence.
Top Prospect: Shane Thomas 6’2 SG 2022– Thomas has a very specific skill – set that is in high demand right now. He’s instant shooting and has the size and strength to guard multiple positions. He currently holds an offer from Chicago St. I expect after this season for him to gain several more.
