Carson McCorkle, Greensboro Day School, 2020
Greensboro Day School returns to the NCISAA 4A as the early favorite after winning their third-straight NCISAA 4A State Title and they return with the best backcourt in the conference. Carson McCorkle represents half of Greensboro Day’s backcourt and he’s quite the prospect as evidenced by his commitment to the Virginia Cavaliers. He posted 14 points in last year’s title game, showcasing his skills as a floor general and scorer. This season should be another great one for McCorkle and company and it will be interesting to see if they can make it four in a row.
Cam Hayes, Greensboro Day School, 2020
Cam Hayes makes up the other half of quite the lethal backcourt for Greensboro Day. He was the unsung leader, especially in last year’s title game, putting up 17 points and returns as a member of the 2020 class and as a future NC State Wolfpack player. It was Hayes’ first season with Greensboro Day but he made the most of it and was rewarded with a state title ring. Now, he’ll look to go out with a bang with back-to-back state titles before heading to the next level.
Jaden Bradley, Cannon School, 2022
Jaden Bradley was only a freshman this past season but that didn’t stop the powers that be from recognizing him as an All-State performer on the 4A level. Bradley already holds offers from over 17 Division I programs entering his sophomore season, which speaks on his abilities on the hardwood. After getting some experience under his belt in 2018-19, it will be interesting to see how Cannon School bounces back in 2019-20, especially with 2022 D.J. Nix returning as well.
M.J. Rice, Durham Academy, 2022
Durham Academy had a strong 2018-19 campaign, finishing the year with a 28-4 record. They’ll have some reloading to do but they do return big-time prospect M.J. Rice, who has a lot of game in his arsenal. Rice is another 2022 prospect with D1 programs knocking on his door already. He’s a big guard at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds that produced 15.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals per game as a freshman while leading his team all the way down to the semifinals of last year’s 4A playoffs. This season they’ll look to get over the hump and dethrone Greensboro Day.
R.J. Johnson, Charlotte Latin, 2020
R.J. Johnson was one of the few players on the last year’s All-State team that made the 4A All-State squad without making the actual tournament. He’s a true floor general that leads by putting others in a position to score. He scores when needed, which he’ll really have to do this upcoming season but he should be up for it after having a strong summer with PSB Elite. He’ll be one to keep an eye on at Charlotte Latin this season.
