Here’s a look at the best Backcourt Duos in Kentucky this season. They are presented in no particular order.
Dayvion McKnight Dayvion McKnight 6'1" | PG Collins | 2020 State #175 Nation KY and Marcellus Vail Marcellus Vail 6'3" | SG Collins | 2020 State KY , Collins – The lone duo on this list where both members hold D1 scholarship offers, McKnight and Vail are hoping to get Collins back to Rupp Arena after playing there as freshmen.
Justin Powell Justin Powell 6'6" | SG North Oldham | 2020 State #102 Nation KY and Dallas Roberts Dallas Roberts 6'1" | PG North Oldham | 2023 State KY , North Oldham – Justin is already committed to Auburn and is the top ranked player in our 2020 rankings. Dallas is one of the top freshmen in the state. Combined they make one of the best guard pairings in the state.
Jake Evans Jake Evans 6'1" | PG Male | 2020 State KY and Tyren Moore Tyren Moore 5'11" | PG Male | 2020 State KY , Male – Evans is the floor general, Moore is the shooter next to him in the backcourt. Combined they look to lead the highly touted Bulldogs team to Rupp Arena. Either can play on or off the ball. Both will be college signees by the springtime.
Marques Warrick Marques Warrick 6'3" | SG Henry Clay | 2020 State #365 Nation KY and Maquis Mackey, Henry Clay – Everyone knows about Warrick but Marquis Mackey Marquis Mackey 6'2" | CG Henry Clay | 2020 State KY is one of the more underrated guards in the Senior class. Combined, they are hoping to lead Henry Clay to Rupp Arena now that the Scott County dynasty is over in the 11th region.
Dre Boyd Dre Boyd 6'4" | SG Warren Central | 2020 State KY and Kobe Brents Kobe Brents 5'9" | SG Warren Central | 2020 State KY , Warren Central – Boyd is an athletic guard who is moving to the point guard spot this season. Brents is a shooter with “in the gym” range. If they can outperform their Junior seasons, the Dragons may be able to win it all at Rupp Arena in March.
Amari Taylor Amari Taylor 6'2" | PG Tates Creek | 2020 State KY and Cion Townsend Cion Townsend 5'11" | PG Tates Creek | 2020 State KY , Tates Creek – Taylor is fundamental. Townsend is flashy. If they can play well together this season (and get some help), they can get Tates Creek back to the 11th region tournament for the first time in a long while.
Jaden Rogers Jaden Rogers 6'1" | PG Fern Creek | 2021 State KY and Darian Lewis, Fern Creek – Most people know about Jaden but few realize that Lewis is actually more likely to play point guard this year while Rogers plays off the ball in a score first role. Together, they form a tough backcourt.
Amirion Joyce Amirion Joyce 6'1" | PG Paducah Tilghman | 2020 State KY and Nakyir Joyce Nakyir Joyce 5'9" | PG Bourbon County | 2020 State KY , Bourbon County – The only two guards on this list who are also related (as far as I know), the Joyces are a tough tandem. Amirion can score and Nakyir is a pest on defense. They have Bourbon in a position to threaten for a birth at Rupp Arena this season.
Kale Gaither Kale Gaither 5'10" | PG Madisonville-North Hopkins | 2022 State KY and Eli Wilkes, Union County – Gaither is a score first guard. Wilkes is a gifted passer. When they’re clicking, they are possibly the best guard duo in the 2nd region. If they get some help, Union could get to the regional tournament this season.
Jaylen Fairman Jaylen Fairman 5'11" | PG Jeffersontown | 2021 IN and Brandon Rayzer-Moore Brandon Rayzer-Moore 6'4" | SG Jeffersontown | 2020 IN , Jeffersontown – Still waiting to see how Fairman will do at J-Town after moving over from Indiana but the potential of this pairing is to be among the best in Louisville. Rayzer-Moore is a potential high D1 prospect and Jaylen could be among the best floor generals in Louisville.
