Hoop Study took place in Stone Mountain at International Sports Arena. The camp featured a guest appearance from former NBA player, John Jenkins.
“Our camp differs from others because of our intention and intensity. It’s all about the kids and being the person to them that we needed for ourselves,” said Elisha Sumo, the brains behind the operation.
Among the sea of players, there were three explosive players that stood-out. Being explosive means having the ability to put on a highlight show that can get the crowd going and help change the momentum of the game.
Jermontae Hill, 2020, 6’6 wing player Tucker High School. Hill is the type of player you want to watch because he’s good, but he has the potential to be great! His basketball IQ sets him apart from everyone else on the hardwood. He doesn’t force the game, he lets the game come to him. Hill plays on the wing but he has the ability to contribute anywhere on the floor. He’s comfortable bringing the ball up the court, he can attack the rim and rebound with the best of them. With his abundance of moves and athletic ability, Hill has a bright future ahead of him.
Shomik Jahan, 2021, 5’9 PG at Miller Grove High School. Jahan has the speed to blow past opponents allowing him to create offense in transition. His quickness makes him difficult to guard. He has an innate capacity to finish near the basket. Jahan’s speed helps make up for his size in being able to create. In addition to being one of the quickest players on the hardwood, he truly shines from beyond the arc. When he gets on a hot shooting streak, Jahan is unstoppable. When he has it going, he is hard to slow down. Jahan is a floor general who can control the tempo of the game and handle the ball like a true point guard.
Dwon Odom, 2020, 6’3 point guard at St. Francis High School. Odom is no stranger to the high school basketball scene. While he is committed to Xavier, he is one of the most exciting players to watch and the future of basketball. What sets him apart is his athletic ability. He can easily get the crowd roaring with exceptional plays and exciting dunks. His quickness and creativity with the ball makes him an explosive player. Odom gives fans plenty to cheer about with his momentum changing plays. He stands out on the hardwood because of his mid-range jump shot, vertical leap and incredible basketball talent.
“The whole idea is to help them understand what it takes to make it to the collegiate level,” said Sumo.
