A good showcase that allowed a lot of prospects to show what they had. A big fan of that, as always.
Coming away from this event one of the things I really liked was some players showed new parts of their games, which is great too.
Prospects:
Kegan Hienton (6’5” / F 2020 / Big Walnut): Hienton showed off his inside game majority of the time Saturday. Even Kegan as on the perimeter, he would hustle inside to grab a missed shot for the offensive board. He did a good job of crashing the boards on both end, a big time impact. Second chance opportunity was a big thing for his game Saturday. Hienton got to the line and knocked it down, also. The Big Walnut forward can score off the catch anywhere in the paint, in multiple ways. Excited to see what’s in store for his senior season!
Troy Scowden (6’7” / PF 2022 / Buckeye Valley): Scowden did his usual work on the court Sunday. Troy was virtually un-guardable at this event in most matchups. Scowden moves better than most and it benefits his team in the transition. Scowden rebounded, grabbed second chance opportunity and drove the ball a bit. Buckeye Valley will be heading to a new conference, in which some teams may have not seen him play before. Which, could mean bad news for the opposition this winter.
Chance Groce (6’5” / WG 2021 / Linden-McKinley): Groce worked mainly as a primary ball handler for his team Saturday. He did a good job of that, not turning it over and getting teammates involved. Also, did well with the “give and go”. Without the ball Chance worked on backdoor cuts, often finishing with an open layup or slam. The 6-foot-5 guard scored from all three levels, including a clean mid-range pull up jumper. Once again the Linden junior should put up numbers in the City League this winter.
Isaac Settles (6’5” / WG 2021 / Thomas Worthington): Settles had an up and down day, but when he was on he was on. Was the primary ball handler often, and took advantage of that. Showcased the ability to set up for others, including some flashy dimes. A crafty ball handler, that uses his moves to get good looks inside. Could work to get out of the double team a little more, but does keep his dribble. Settles has size to rebound with the bigs, where he gathered a couple put back opportunities. Also, scores off the bounce just about anywhere. Can finish inside acrobatically. Thomas Worthington has a very talented 2021 class, Settles is a big part of that.
Isaac Settles bringing up the ball.Ayden Rich (6’3” / WG 2021 / Marion Harding): Ayden didn’t do a whole lot offensively, as he’s still coming around on that part of his game. Rich took a couple of shots he wouldn’t have normally taken, so you could see a step in confidence there. The junior showed off his athletic ability, which I would call sneaky, as you don’t quite expect it. He can go about and grab rebounds with the bigs, or catch a pass most could not. Active hands on defense, deflects passes and plays the passing lane rather well. Can handle it decent, better fit in a secondary role. A player that continues to show next level defensive instincts, as well as the dirty work.
