Four for the Future from M-22
Judging from the signs in the back of car windows Michiganders like to frequent the M-22 (Sleeping Bear Dunes) corridor. College basketball recruiters might not be as prevalent among these visitors. Some young prospects are seeking to change this narrative…

Continue Reading- Luke Hazelton 6-6 2023 Glen Lake The younger brother of Ferris St commit and top Northern Michigan Lower Peninsula prospect Reece Hazelton, so the bloodlines are there. Unfortunately brothers will often be compared, and Luke is a much different prospect at this point. A traditional big he does not posses the perimeter explosiveness of his brother. This is by no means a slight, as he is arguably one of the better low post prospects in the entire 2023 class. Earlier this summer he played well in a loaded positional group at the Ferris St Exposure Camp. He looked even better at the 250 Expo. Basically everything was present expect the payoff, as he struggled to finish at the rim. Outside of that he displayed excellent footwork and a good understanding of how to operate in the pick and roll. Hazelton was also aggressive defensively. As an added bonus Hazelton is left handed making him that much more difficult to defend in the post. Glen Lake will be one of the better Class C teams this year and Hazelton is working hard to attempt to become a contributor in their deep rotation.
- Shawn Bramer 6-1 2023 Lake Leelanau St Mary’s As with most 2023 prospects a little projection is needed in this evaluation. Bramer did not get a lot of touches on the day. However I had to double check my directory as he does not look like a Freshman at all. With big broad shoulders and sturdy frame he competed well defensively when I viewed him. There is definitely some work to do offensively but this is a young prospect to keep an eye due to his advanced physical profile.
- Dylan Barnowski 5-10 2023 Lake Leelanau St Mary’s Unlike his teammate Barnowski looks every bit his age. However Barnowski showed an uncanny nose for the ball and shot making ability. Barnowski moved well without the ball and was not afraid to mix it up under the basket. Appears to have a soft touch and good rotation on a left handed perimeter shot. Does not appear to have the ball handling to be a a lead guard at this point. Although he probably is able to play that role within his age group. The future looks bright for the Eagles as Bramer and Barnowski were joined by 2022 teammate August Schaub in Grand Rapids this weekend.
- Quinn Zickert 6-1 2022 Bennie Central Stretching a little bit geographically. Depending on where this young man lives in his district he could fall within the M-22 range. Now on to the court. Zickert is a prospect that does not pass the initial eye test. To overcome this he displayed a high level of effort throughout the day. This was especially evident in the last game. As the surrounding courts finished and players were heading home Zickert continued to beat his man down the court to get easy shots. Once given these shots Zickert showed a quick fluid release. Zickert will need to work on his ball handling and athleticism to increase his status as a prospect. He was joined in Grand Rapids by 2022 teammate Nate Childers. These two prospects could possibly change the tide for a program with good tradition that has hit some rough waters.
