Continue ReadingThroughout the next week, I’ll be taking a look at five prospects from each class that bring intrigue. There won’t be a set criteria for who I choose, but they will all be prospects who are still available on the college market. The DMV is flooded with talent that could very well play this game for money some day, so there really is no right or wrong answer as to who shows or doesn’t show on this list.
The incoming freshman class is one with no shortage of talent. There are a number of prospects who have tremendous size, length and skill for someone just entering high school.
Kwame Evans | 6’7 | Poly/Team Melo
Evans is one of the prospects that checks all of the boxes mentioned above. The 6-foot-7 southpaw comes equipped with extremely long arms and ability to score it from inside and out. Defensively, he uses his length to disrupt shots in the paint, and brings true value with his ability to corral rebounds and lead the break himself.
Deshawn Harris-Smith | 6’4 | Paul IV/Team Takeover
Harris-Smith presents good size as a combo guard and brings toughness and strength it takes for a freshman to earn minutes on a talented team like Paul IV. He has a chance to be one of the better two-way players in the DMV with his ability to score, play make off the dribble and defend multiple positions.
Marvin Brimage | 6’2 | Paul IV/Team Takeover
Brimage is one of the most gifted offensive players in the 2023 class. His ability to shoot in either spot up situations or off the dribble make him a tough guard. Brimage has shown that he can create space to get his shot off, but also understands the game and how to find open teammates when defenses key in on him. He’s shown potential to be a solid defender and as he gets stronger, should be a prospect dozens of programs are after.
Khalil Williams | 6’2 | Potomac
Williams is a 6-foot-2 lefty who will bring outside shooting as a freshman. He had a decent showing throughout the Capital Hoops Summer League in his first taste of varsity level action converting on just under 36 percent of his three’s in the 10 games played. That will be the area he contributes to the most in his first year while also showing some ability to rebound well for his position.
Samartine Bogues | 5’6 | Calvert Hall/Team Thrill
Bogues will be an interesting prospect to watch develop over the next four years. Not only because his mirrors the playing style of his grandfather and former NBA point guard Mugsy, but also because he has the style of play to make a team look better than their projected to be. Bogues only stands 5-foot-6, but brings tremendous toughness to the defensive side of the ball. He guards his man full court and has extremely quick hands to cause deflections. With the ball, he gets into the paint, forces the defense to collapse and anticipates the correct reads.
