Things change and shift opinions pretty often, my predictions made a couple of months ago are most likely different from what they are now as I’ve had more time to be around the players and evaluate them further.
State Championship Favorite: Cesar Chavez
I think the clear favorite right now is Cesar Chavez. They’re bringing back a lot of their roster and most importantly, they are bringing back two players specifically. Ty Ty Washington and Ricardo Sarmiento have to be one of the best guard duos in state. Their backcourt is going to be ridiculous. Washington and Sarmiento have taken a noticeable jump in their play this summer as well. Both players had great seasons last year and have only gotten better. I can’t wait to see what they can cook up this year!
State Championship Runner-Up: Skyline
I don’t think Skyline has that star power that Cesar Chavez does but I do think they are a much more well-rounded team and will give Chavez a run for their money. Dayton Harris is the best play making guard in the state, Tanner Poeschl has shown a big improvement in his game, and Dominic Capriotti is one of the best shooters in state. Tanner and Dominic give Dayton a ton of weapons to use while running their offense. I think they could really make a run at state but for now…Chavez remains my favorite.
