Mater Dei High’s program had a couple of sets of brothers on display, in junior forward Nick Davidson and his freshman brother, Zachary Davidson – who may be capable of cracking a veteran Monarchs’ frontcourt rotation this season, as well as twin sophomore forwards Austin and Dane Persek.
Joining the elder Davidson as one of the better prospects from the Class of 2021 at the event was 6-foot-7 Luke Turner of Rancho Christian.
And joining Turner in showcasing his considerable skill earlier in the day was another Turner – his sibling, 6-foot Jack Turner, who lit defenders up with jump shots and slick drives
Finally, it was a “junior-sophomore combo” representing the Watson Family, as 6-7 Peyton Watson – one of the more heavily recruited prospects in the Class of 2021 – displayed his multitude of basketball and athletic skills in the Top 20 Junior game, after younger brother Christian stood out in both the To 40 and Top 20 Sophomore contests played earlier.
Peyton Watson (pictured with Christian) was on the same squad with Nick Davidson in the Top 20 Junior contest, with Watson dishing to Davidson for layups after penetration dribbles.
Watson and Davidson combined for 33 points but their squad lost, 110-98, as guard T.J. Wainwright (Westchester) led the way with 24 points and Luke Turner added 13.
The Brothers Persek combined for 22 points in the Top 20 Sophomore game, with Austin having 14 of them for the squad that prevailed, 58-56.
Christian Watson (19 points) was the leading scorer in the Top 40 Sophomore clash, which helped him get bumped into the Top 20 game, as well.
Jack Turner helped get the day started with 19 points in the solo 8th Grade game.
There was another brother combo at the event, in 6-10 freshman Jazz Gardner of Damien and his 7th grade sibling, JaiYon Gardner.
The younger Gardner – a left-handed point guard – scored seven points in the 8th Grade game with several nifty assists.
But his “big” (by more than a foot) brother couldn’t go in the Freshman contest because of a sore shoulder.
