We designed our “All-Area All-Star Teams” for some of the strongest conferences in the class. Here is our “Continental League All-Star Team based on my predictions this year, including my breakout player of the conference which does not mean MVP but player I expect will take a huge step this upcoming season.
First Team:
PG: Kobe Sanders — Chaparral – Sr.
Make no mistake about it, if I am starting a team with any point guard in the state it will have the name Kobe Sanders at the top of the list. He is a natural born leader and competitor that is going to bring the best out of the players. He is going to find the open guys and if the team needs to rely on a player to score we know that Sanders is a bucket. This is my first player chosen.
SG: Tristan Hurdle – Highlands Ranch — Sr.
Every team needs a player that every single time they find them open they feel as if the shot is going in and every single time that Hurdle is open it feels as if the rim widens. He has range. He is a different type of shooter than others in the state because he gets it done in multiple ways from deep. He can shoot off of the dribble, is a deadeye sharp-shooter with range and also is able to blow by you for an easy basket. He is able to turn the game around with his shot and that cannot be replicated. He is the top shooter in the conference.
SF: Jason Simental – Thunderridge — Jr.
Simental just transferred down the street and this is a big deal as it makes T-Ridge a pretty complete team. He can score in multiple ways, he defends multiple positions and with his skill and size his versatility makes them that much more dangerous. The Grizzlies will be solid from top to bottom and I feel as if Simental will come in and lead them in points this upcoming season which is not a great thing for opposing teams. Simental will have a big year.
SF/PF: Aaron Jacobs – Chaparral – Jr.
Jacobs is one of the taller players in the conference but is also very versatile and that gives him the upper hand on others bigs. He can space the floor as well as go inside and bang. He rebounds but also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and start the break. I feel as if this will be a breakout year for him and he makes my first team list of bigs in the conference.
C: Nolan Marold – Thunderridge — Jr.
Marold is the big man of the conference. He is strong, he is quick, he is raw but he is improving. Defensively, you are not going to find better bigs in the conference who are able to take over the game and that is making impacting plays especially on the defensive end. He alters shots and secures rebounds with an improving inside game.
Bench
Guard: Cam Le Van – Legend – Sr.
Le Van is a smaller guard but he is a true point guard that comes with variety. He can shoot, he can pass, he makes smart decisions and he is also a guard that can attack you in iso situations and get his shots off. This will have to be a year that he ups his game offensively. I think he is capable of putting up bigger numbers, he just has to be aggressive enough while also keeping up on his assists and getting others involved as well. Big Senior year coming for him.
Guard: Jalen Ashley – Rock Canyon –Sr.
Ashley is a bucket-getter that can get it from wherever on the court. He can attack the basket and score, he can knock down shots and also he will find the open man. He has good size for a guard and also gets it done on both ends of the court. He is one of the states most underrated players but a very good guard nonetheless and one of the best in the conference.
Wing: Rhys Pulling – Mountain Vista –Sr.
Pulling is a marksman from deep and one of the best sharp shooters in the conference. If he is open just know it is most likely going to go down as seen from him shooting 42% from beyond the arc for his career. He can come off of screens, MV does a good job of setting up plays for him and he is also able to switch it up. With guards Sanders and also Ashley around him he would be able to really light it up, hopefully Mountain Vista has a true point guard emerge to get him some shots as he is a good player that needs to be on more radars.
Post: Terrance Ferguson – Heritage – Jr.
Ferguson is a skilled big body down low that gets what he wants. If his team got more wins last year he would surely be on more radars as he is one of the toughest players to defend in the post in the entire conference. He can score with his back to the basket and also has soft touch inside. He is strong and moves really well and defenders have a difficult time guarding him. This would be my secret weapon as he is going to have some HUGE double-double games this upcoming season.
Post: Garrett Siebert – Legend — Jr.
Siebert is a physical big man that is a volume rebounder. Creates space with his large size and used well in the pick and roll. While he is not a knock down shooter he can also step out and space the floor. Siebert can score, rebound and defend and rounds out a strong bench unit that will play the right style of basketball. He does not floor much and he is also able to play positions 3-5.
Three other breakout players to watch: Quint Geck – Rock Canyon – Jr. , Erik Olsen – Heritage,–Jr. Garrett Arnold – Thunderridge – Jr.
