Last year at Mountain Pointe in Phoenix, Henry averaged a double-double of 12.2 points and 10.2 boards a game shooting 62 percent from the field and 72 percent from the field.
What was Henry looking for in a school that he found at Nevada?
“The college that best fits me and my family,” Henry said. “The program that has the best interest in me and will put me in position to make it as far as I can in basketball possible.”
Teams showing the most interest before the Nevada commitment included Grand Canyon, Northern Colorado, and South Dakota plus Air Force, Loyola Chicago, and Loyola Marymount were showing strong interest.
DeAndre is a top sport standout as he’s also one of the top football prospects in the state of Arizona. Basketball is his future though. Now Henry’s focus is on his final season of basketball and leaving a strong impression. That strong impression will include leaving a positive message.
“I want people to learn that you need to follow your heart and never give up on your dreams and always pursue your passion! And I want to be looked at as a leader and people learn from me.”
Henry spent his spring and summer playing Powerhouse Hoops (Arizona Select) and once again it was a very positive experience.
“This year was one to remember for sure,” Henry said. “It was nothing but love and hospitality and GREAT memories and we created a brother hood that will last forever.
“We all worked very hard, went out and competed against top talent in the country and saw all of our recruitments shoot out the roof. I wish all my brothers success and luck past high school.”
Powerhouse Hoops was full of basketball lessons for DeAndre but also life lessons off the floor.
“The games this year developed me a whole lot this year with confidence and athleticism and just all around I’m better at basketball from the competition and stepping out of my comfort zone to get where I needed to be.
“And it taught me life skills and has built me into more of a man and gave me tools I need for the real world.”
