College Commitment: Kyle Karstetter (2020 Moses Lake HS)
The month of July can make a big difference in one’s college recruitment. You don’t have to tell Kyle Karstetter about that. The versatile 6-foot-7, 195-pound combo forward from Moses Lake started turning some heads on the AAU circuit with Eastern Washington Elite at the end of the summer and the interested started coming about. Idaho State stepped forward with an offer and this week Karstetter decided that the Bengals were the right choice for him.
“When I went on my official visit I felt that it was like a family,” said. “The players, the coaching staff – I wanted to be a part of that. I think (the program) is up-and-coming and they’re really going to be good and be able to compete in the Big Sky. I wanted to play D-I and play in the (NCAA) tournament and I think that’s where they’re headed.”
Karstetter had started garnering interest from a number of schools after playing at a tournament in Las Vegas with Eastern Washington Elite in July. Eastern Washington started to show interest and Pepperdine inquired. A number of Division II programs also got involved, but once Idaho State offered and had him on the official visit, that’s all Karstetter needed to see.
“It’s a nice campus and it’s like home,” said. “It just felt like home when I was there.”
A versatile forward that can play inside and out, Karstetter noted that he’ll play both the three and the four at Idaho State. He’s happy about his development this summer but know there’s plenty more work to do to prepare himself for the Big Sky.
“I feel like I got more confident with my shooting (this summer),” Karstetter said. “I just need to get stronger in the weight room and keep getting quicker.”
