We recently recapped who in the Class of 2020 already has at least one offer in hand – what seniors who have yet to earn a scholarship tender could join the club this fall? Here’s a look at the top candidates.
Payton Richardson, Western Christian
The athletic 6-foot-3 swingman is active on both ends of the floor and has worked hard on improving his perimeter skills. The pre-season favorite for 2A player of the year at Western Christian continues to hear from schools at all levels but Division II schools Seattle Pacific and Northwest Nazarene have stepped up their interest. Northwest Nazarene will be making an in-home visit and Richardson is scheduled to officially visit Seattle Pacific on October 12-13 and an offer may very well come from either or both of those schools.
Mason Lomax, Sprague
The versatile 6-foot-2 guard had a solid summer playing with Hoop Salem and certainly has drawn interest from all varying levels over the course of time. Things have died down a bit as many schools want to monitor him both athletically and academically this upcoming season at Sprague, but Lomax does have a visit scheduled with Menlo College soon, which could possibly pull the trigger on an offer.
Koby Williamson, Santiam Christian
One of the top big men in the class, the 6-foot-8 Santiam Christian senior has garnered college interest from schools up and down the West Coast. His size inside is attractive but also his ability to step out and stretch defenses with his perimeter shooting. Close to home, Corban has been very involved and has hosted him on campus while trips to Multnomah and Menlo College are on tap and an offer from any of those is very possible.
Jasper Reinalda, Corvallis
As the saying goes, you can’t teach size and Reinalda certainly has plenty of that at 7-foot-3. But the Corvallis senior is more than just height as he’s shown improvement with his mobility, conditioning, and his offensive fundamentals over the course of the spring and summer. Also high-academic, it would be a shock if some D2/D3/NAIA schools didn’t believe he was worth making a project and decide to pull the trigger on an offer.
Silas Bennion, Churchill
Churchill is as deep as it gets when it comes to any school in the state at any classification but there’s no question Bennion is the engine behind the machine – after all, he was the MWL POY last year as a junior. The 5-foot-10 point guard had a solid spring and summer and schools like his tenacity on both ends of the floor. It wouldn’t be surprising to see an NAIA school get the offer party started this fall.
