With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top forwards in Class A for this upcoming season:
Mason Miller, Ada-Borup
The North Dakota State football recruit doubles as one of the most impactful big men in Class A. Miller is a two-way force for the Cougars and the key in their quest to get back to the state tournament. He averaged better than 13 points and eight rebounds a year ago. Those numbers would be better if the Cougars pushed the pace more. Expect them to go up this year because he’ll be even more heavily featured in the offense.
Luke Dudycha, Hayfield
Hayfield was one of the surprise teams in Class A last year and while the Vikings graduate Mason Tapp, they’ve got a really solid talent base still in house. Big man Luke Dudycha figures to see a bigger role after averaging 12 points per game a year ago. The 6-foot-7 senior is a strong interior defender, runs the floor extremely well and can finish at the rim at a high level.
Colt Landers, Grand Meadow
Grand Meadow could be a contender in Section 1A and Colt Landers is the main reason why. The 6-foot-4 junior forward averaged better than 18 points per game last year as just a sophomore. He’s got a ton of skill and showed over the summer that his game can translate even against tougher competition. He’s big and athletic and has the ability to put up huge numbers for the Superlarks.
Broden Lien, Norman County East
Norman County East is always solid and that won’t change over the next couple years with Broden Lien holding down the fort. The 6-foot-7 junior was an 18 point-per-game guy as a sophomore and had a monster summer on the AAU circuit. He’s got great footwork inside and solid touch out to the 3-point line. He’s going to cause headaches for opposing coaches in Northern Minnesota for the next couple years.
Trevor Morrison/Darius Goggleye, North Woods
North Woods has gone to three straight state title games and while strong guard play was a driving force in that run, the frontcourt was solid. Now that group becomes the focal point as Trevor Morrison and Darius Goggleye are both good enough to average double doubles up front. Morrison put up 14 points and seven boards a year ago while Goggleye averaged 11 and six. Morrison is a strong finisher inside who does a great job controlling the paint while Goggleye has the mobility and athleticism to create his own shot inside and finish at a high level.
