The 2019-2020 season should prove much of the same, as there will be some bigs once again ready to run the table. Including the top available 2019 prospect in the area, a senior at Walnut Ridge.
• Von Cameron-Davis & Kaveon Ross (Walnut Ridge): Not many teams in the state will be able to matchup with the size and strength of the Scots. Von Cameron-Davis is maybe the top player in the area, and is a force inside and is beginning to stretch the floor more. I believe that Ross will be more fit for the offense this year, and have a bigger role. Ross cleans up what Davis doesn’t, and the co-exist rather well. Both players can go for a double-double just about every night, which is exciting for Walnut Ridge. Walnut Ridge will go as far as their seniors, include Qian Magwood take them this season.
• Bilal Sow & Cole Metzler (Canal Winchester): Sow and Metzler are two power forward prospects for the next level. Relatively the same size, they play well next to each other. The pair crashes the boards, a reason why Canal Winchester won’t be out rebounded by many. Metzler brings a motor to the game in which he absolutely competes with. Also, does the little things, makes winning plays. Metzler cleans things up and operates well off of put backs. Sow is more of a traditional four as he can do damage at the rim, he also stretches it out deep as well. Sow seems to work a little better with the ball in his hand, able to bring a little more versatility. An exciting duo to keep an eye on.
• Troy Scowden & Max Stokey (Buckeye Valley): A rather unique combo of upper and lower class men, Scowden & Stokey are a combo we have to highlight. Scowden has a decent ceiling with his best basketball ahead of him. Standing at about six-foot-seven, Scowden is a much of a force as Buckeye Valleys center Stokey is. Stokey does the dirty work, operates on put backs and grabs anything within reach. Scowden can handle the ball a little bit but is best when he’s in transition with a lane to work with. It will be interesting to see how the two gel in their new conference this season.
There are plenty of other solid front courts, but Questions remain. Tyrese Hughey and Jack Sawyer are easily some of the best forward prospects in Central Ohio regardless of class, but who steps up beside him remains a question.
Upper Arlington has their next coming of division one prospects in 2021’s Magnus Entenmann. Central Ohio has plenty of options at the four & five positions going forward.
