Joesph Jackson – Madison County 2021: I know I mentioned him in part two of my Stock Risers piece, but I have to give the guard his props. He was brilliant early on with the catch-and-shoot trey. Really likes it from the wing & corner. If he develops his handle, and learns more of the game, he’ll be a real threat to defenses.
David Mazon – Riverview 2021: The 6’5”, 4.5 GPA-wielding Mazon made his presence felt from beyond the arc. He’s another guy that’s really great off the catch-and-shoot, especially, in-transition. From either the left wing, or right corner, Mazon proved he can serve buckets.
C.J. Matthews – Choctaw 2020: This 6’2” lefty made some splashes from the wing that turned a few heads. His release wasn’t the quickest of the bunch, but definitely one of the most accurate. Off-the-dribble, Matthews can definitely prove himself as one of the go-to shooters for Choctaw.
Jordin Jackson – Impact Christian 2020: The 5’10” guard was easily one of the top bucket-getters of the field. Mentioned earlier in Jake Perper’s “2020-21 Standouts” piece, there’s no way that someone could exclude him from this particular story. Loved his ability to get a quick shot off from off-the-catch. He doesn’t waste time deliberating on whether or not to pull the trigger. Shoots the three with confidence.
Matt Lentz – Durant 2021: Standing at 6’6”, the lanky, but limber Lentz let the crowd know that his outside shooting ability has picked up. Yes, he’s another guy that made the “2020-21 Standouts” list, but he deserves this nod, without question. His entire form is reminiscent of Kevin Love’s, and his three-ball was falling like it. Want to see if he can create shots like that from off-the-dribble as the days, come.
James Cone – Naples 2021: Not just a shooter, but has the make-up to become a SCORER. From the wing, Cone can cook up some long-balls. Though he’s a righty, he proved he can hit the midrange floater with his left. Would like to see his release become quicker before the season starts, but if you leave him open, Cone can make you pay.
