Here were the freshman standouts from the Top-20 game:
Tru Washington SG/SF 6’3 Cesar Chavez
-One of the more talented incoming freshman does many things well. He can score from all 3 levels plus is a terror in transition. He has a big time motor and seems to rebound, steal, block shots or get multiple deflections in every game. The lefty can improve the consistency on his 3pt shot but his activity, defense and attacking the rim are at the top of the class. He was the 1st in the class to receive a D1 offer. He received one from Santa Barbara earlier this week.
Mark Brown PG 5’9 Mountain Pointe
-If it wasn’t for Sadraque Nganga, Brown may have been the MVP of the Top-20 game. He makes the game look easy with his shooting, scoring, speed, on-ball defense and passing to teammates. The Pride are getting a difference maker.
Kevin Patton Jr SF 6’4 Mesa
-Long high upside wing forward. He has a nice shooting stroke and moves fluidly around the court. He is a good passer in traffic but his best skill is currently his shot blocking ability. He has immense length and great timing to send away any players trying to score.
Vincent Delano CG 5’9 St. Mary’s
-A talented true combo guard with a high IQ. He makes the game easy for himself and never rushed any plays. He may be the best shooter or one of the best shooters in the class. He is a good ball handler and always makes good reads/decisions.
Isaac Kaps PG 6’0 Highland
-Uber athletic downhill guard can defend. Similar to older brother Derick Kaps, where he likes to attack the basket, defends, has a tighter handle and will hit perimeter jumpers.
Amari Carraway PG 5’6 Clovis West (CA)
-Super fast diminutive scoring PG who has a clip. He was one of the more consistent shooters at the event. He is jet quick and comes with a super handle. He has family in Tucson and it wouldn’t shock me that he ended up in AZ one of these years.
Masai Dean Jr PG 5’8 Cholla
-Another top-tier shooter. He has a quick release and the lefty has deep range. He is a serviceable facilitator and thinks the game like a coach. He does happen to be the son of the Cholla head coach.
