The ALL IN High School fall league kicked off the first week at Maine East High School on September 8th. Seven out of 11 games were decided by single digit margins. The high scorer at the varsity level this week was Jonathan Serrano of Maine East High School with 21 points. At the Frosh/Soph level Brandon Ballarini of Glenbrook South led all scorers with 21 points as well. All schedules and statistics can be found at ALL IN’s website
VARSITY HIGHLIGHTS: Week 1
Loyola Academy 63 Downers Grove South 54
Loyola Academy led this one most of the way behind Joe McKenna’s 16 points and Scotty Dean’s 14 points. Loyola hit seven threes during the contest. Downers Grove South has very good length this year. Connor Cigrand was the high scorer for Downers Grove South with 13 points.
Maine East 43 Hoffman Estates 36
Despite a game high 13 points from Shayan Badal, Hoffman Estates couldn’t catch up with Maine East. Shiv Amin scored all 12 of his points from beyond the three-point arc for Maine East, as they hit nine threes as a team.
Maine East 60 Downers Grove South 51
Maine East moved to 2-0 on the day. Serrano’s day high of 21 points pushed Maine East past a flurry of nine threes by Downers Grove South. Angelo Ognianov led Downers Grove South with 15 points including three makes behind the three-point arc.
Maine South 47 Glenbrook South 40
Sean Gallery consistently got to the paint and the free throw line, leading Maine South with 12 points, including 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the win. Glenbrook South’s Zack Goldstein led all scorers with 14 points.
Niles West 59 Wheeling 57
Wheeling got off to a hot start, but a game full of runs and tied scores saw Haris Mackic lead all scorers with 17 points. Javen Reid did it inside and out for Wheeling, battling to guard 6’6” Lucas Vidrean of Niles West and hitting four threes to lead Wheeling with 16 points.
Maine West 56 Ida Crown 40
Maine West took a big, early lead on Ida Crown who battled back and cut it to under 10 in the second half, but couldn’t completely close the early gap. AJ Ross of Maine West led all scorers with 18 points in a game that was 17 different players score.
FROSH/SOPH HIGHLIGHTS: Week 1
St. Ignatius 70 Highland Park 24
St. Ignatius dominated from start to finish. Kyle McIntyre of St. Ignatius led all scorers with 18 points while teammate Charlie Siciliano followed with 14.
Hersey 52 Clemson 29
The other dominant win on the day was by Hersey. Danny McCartey notched a game high 17 points scoring at all three levels for Hersey in the win.
Highland Park 63 Hersey 31
Highland Park bounced back in their second game of the day to hand Hersey their first loss. A pair of 16 point performances by Sean Goodman and Brandon Riser led Highland Park to a win. Hersey was led by Sean Saffords 13 points, including a trio of threes.
Glenbrook South 67 Loyola Academy 64
With 4 seconds left Loyola called a timeout and had to go the length of the floor to tie, but a bobbled inbounds led to a missed half court shot at the buzzer. Glenbrook South hit their free throws down the stretch and was paced by Brandon Ballarini’s 21 points. Loyola was led by Dajour Stephens 18 points.
Illinois 47 Ida Crown 41
In a tight contest, Ida Crown made multiple runs but could never take the lead after facing an early deficit. Nicholas Durst hit a flurry of threes to start the game for Illinois and led all scorers with 18 points. Everyone scored on Ida Crown’s 8-man roster in their loss.
