In Columbus, there’s no shortage. The sophomores are very talented all all levels, many already have Division l offers, including all in this article.
Many other players will pick some up, or play at the highest of D2 and D3 levels, 2022 is solid.
This team was interesting to put together, as it would be a sight to see.
These all-star teams are just a fun way to bring together some talent and think “what if”. It isn’t necessarily about the top ranked players but more so the fit that they have together. Which, is the biggest difference between first and second team, putting the best fit together.
First Team:
PG Sean Jones (5’9” / Gahanna): Height doesn’t mean much when it comes to this player, as he’s one of the top guards in the entire state. Jones is maybe the quickest player in the area, and can blow by defenders without a problem. Also, above average court vision benefits the guards game big time as he can set up teammates at a high rate. The Gahanna player is a terror in transition as many just can’t catch up to him. Sean is good and only getting better.
G DJ Moore (6’3” / Worthington Christian): We have heard how well Moore is doing on the gridiron, but he’s even better on the court. The standout guard has grown some and is a tough guard for any opposing defender. The Worthington native can shoot it or finish around the rim. Putting up a lot of points as a freshman was only a glimpse of what Moore will be. Don’t be surprised if the sophomore is one of the areas top scorers.
WG Jared Frey (6’4” / St. Charles): Frey is a crafty scorer that is a mismatch problem for other guards. Frey has a smooth jumper that is money from distance. Also, the ability to stop and pop is there. At 6-4 the St. Charles athlete can body up opposing guards in the paint and score a bucket. Frey would bring a heavy scoring load to this lineup.
PF Joshua Whiteside (6’6” / St. Charles): Transfering from Gahanna to St. Charles has Whiteside already having chemistry with two players in this lineup. The 6-6 big is a load to stop inside where he does most of his work finishing. The sophomore brings shot-blocking ability and deters anything around the rim. Whiteside is a solid rebounder and will be even better as he continues to fill out his frame, too.
C AJ Clayton (6’6” / Philo): Philo is a little easy of Zanesville, so it’s not really Central Ohio, but a unique spot in Ohio with not a lot of coverage. Clayton we have been able to see play quite a bit. The 6-6 sophomore is expected to grow quite a bit more, which should put him as a center at the next level. AJ has floor-stretching ability with a reliable outside jumper that falls often. Clayton is long, can provide defensive help and rebounds. Best basketball ahead as he continues to grow into form.
