Recruiting is one of the best aspects of the collegiate job. It gives you the opportunity to get to know student athletes, their families, and the people around them. Your job as a recruiter is to find players that fit your head coach, the program, and the school.
Tommy Murr (Lindsey Lane)- What’s not to love about this kid? Murr is a high IQ scoring machine. He gets it done from all 3 levels. This guard understands how to play, and he does not need the ball in his hands to be effective. Murr moves very well without the basketball. This kid will have a 4 year career somewhere and be loved by many.
Giancarlo Valdez (Decatur Heritage)- Valdez is a 6’3 guard who can play on and off the ball. At the next level, he will probably get more time off the ball. This kid can score, shoots the ball well, and can make plays on both ends of the court. Valdez is a super competitive kid. I love guys that can make plays on both ends and have that dog in them.
Sedrick Pettway (Northridge)- Pettway is a 6’5 perimeter player. He has really improved as a scoring threat and playmaker. This kid can really set up defenders off the bounce. Pettway is a good athlete. When he is locked in, he’s been an impactful defender. Pettway has upside and after 4-5 years, he’s going to be one heck of a player.
Chance Beard (Briarwood)- I love kids that can defend inside/out and that have a relentless motor. Beard is a high academic kid who can go. He is 6’6 and sneaky athletic. Beard battles hard on the glass and is not afraid to stick his nose in there. Offensively he’s shown the ability to hit corner 3s and has improved ball skill.
Shannon Grant (Sylacauga)- If my team needs a big, I’m recruiting this monster. Grant is a 6’10 big bodied lane stuffer. He moves very well, battles on the glass, alters shots, and is extremely coachable. With the right coaching and conditioning, Grant can turn into a special player.
