There is so much talent in the State of Indiana, that it could be very challenging to keep up with what every top prospect is doing. Luckily for you, Prep Hoops Indiana is here to keep you updated throughout the season. If you have been keeping track of whats going on, you might have noticed that the 2020 Class is starting to be locked up as far as recruiting goes. For the sake of this article, we are going to strictly focus on the 2021 Class and five of the long list of top prospects you must keep track of during this upcoming season.
Caleb Furst, Fort Wayne Blackhawk: The 6-9 power forward is in for a monster year as his recruiting starts to ramp up. Averaging a double-double at 19.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg, Caleb Furst led Fort Wayne Blackhawk to their first State Championship last season. Ranked as the #10 power forward in the 2021 class by 247sports, there are a host of schools and universities that are interested in this powerful prospect. As far as Furst’s team is concerned, he will be looking to lead The Braves to their first Class 2A State Championship after making the jump from Class 1A this season. Furst is a true power forward in every aspect and it will interesting to see just how much damage he can do in his junior year.
Blake Wesley, South Bend Riley: As a top twenty-five shooting guard in the nation, Blake Wesley is a fantastic “do it all” prospect. Not only is Blake a knockdown shooter, he has a very smooth touch around the rim. Averaging 12.3 ppg and a solid 3.0 rpg his sophomore year, Welsey and South Bend Riley lost a close game to Penn, who were the eventual sectional winner in Class 4A. One would imagine that Wesley will want to have a shot at a State Title within the next two years and if he can take his amazing skill set to the next level, a state title run can come sooner rather than later. Watch out for Wesley to have incredible year and ramp up his recruiting even more.
Luke Goode, Homestead: If someone is wanting to watch for one of the best, if not the best, pure shooter in the State of Indiana right now, look no further than Luke Goode. He knows how to get open looks and what it takes to create a shot. Goode shot an incredible 35% from behind the arc and averaged 14.9 ppg in his sophomore campaign. Goode and Homestead fell short to Huntington North in sectional, but him and squad will be looking to have a bounce back post-season. The only sign of improvement will be his strength but other than that, this kid is a total package. With as smooth as a stroke that Goode has, he has a chance to replicate or better his stats from last season.
Jalen Blackmon, Marion: Often living in his oldest brother’s shadow, Jalen Blackmon is quickly carving a path of his own. Jalen had a tremendous sophomore year averaging an outstanding 26.9 ppg and leading his team to a regional championship against Delta. To make Jalen standout even more, he is on track to break the all-time Marion High School Scoring Record. Blackmon is an exciting player with an exciting future. He is a great combo guard and most can tell by watching him, he has a winning mentality. He has improved every year since his freshman year and there should be no doubt that trend will continue this season. Look for Jalen’s recruiting to rise during his junior year.
Luke Brown, Blackford: Highly skilled and highly determined, there are not many competitors in Indiana that are like Luke Brown. If you follow Indiana High School Basketball, it is no secret that Brown is the leading scorer in the State of Indiana. Even though people often question the talent that he and Blackford play, this kid goes and plays his heart out each and every game. His recruiting is on the low end right now with just a few schools that have offered him, but that will likely change once his junior season starts. Brown should be watched any chance that people get. He is a “bucket-getter” and could potentially break Damon Bailey’s all time scoring record. That right there should garner people’s attention to watch this tough kid play.
