Moving On: The Bulldogs made the state title game with three seniors: 6-foot-6 big Trevin Holland who is now at Mount Marty College and two reserves in Dakota Barnard and Max Poppinga who played when the Bulldogs went past their 6th man in the rotation. Holland was the team’s second leading scorer, leading shot blocker, and one of the top couple rebounders.
Returning Starters: Four guards are back led by All State sophomore guard Kalen Garry who scored 22 points a contest aggressively shooting 14 times a game with championship level results. Garry already has an all state honor to his name and Class B state title game memorabilia in his home. The best is yet to come.
The beauty of the situation is that the 6-foot-1, 175 pound Garry has a fellow freshman named Rett Osthus returning from double figure state tournament averages. Osthus can be a legit second scoring option as a six foot sophomore guard while 6-foot-1 junior Ethan McCune was a fourth double figure number potential player last year plus he collected seven rebounds a contest. McCune is 210 pounds and will be the main piece in the paint. The fourth returning starter is junior Cody Cavanaugh, a 5-foot-11 guard that moved the ball well and defended with passion. Cody is also the quarterback this fall.
Reserves Playing a Bigger Role: The 6th man was Tory Holland, a 6-foot-2 wing that stepped off the bench and handled a couple roles. He rebounded with effort and shot the ball at the arc with decent results.
Potentials from the JV: No we have not mentioned a senior as of yet but De Smet will need some reserves to step forward, especially ones with size. That could be Baylor Beck, a 6-foot-2 170 pound forward that will be needed for frontcourt depth. Dominic Hansen is a 5-foot-8, 130 pound guard that will also be a senior.
