There was no shortage of talent from Baltimore, D.C, Delaware, Texas, Philadelphia and Oklahoma. It was a great opportunity to see how the Baltimore prospects from the 2021 class measured up against some of the best in the country. Throughout this week, I’ll be breaking down the Baltimore prospects in each class that took advantage of this stage and stood out.
The 2021 standouts include:
Jared Billups | 6’6 | McDonogh
Billups is starting to grow into one of the best wings in Baltimore. At 6-foot-6, a chiseled build and an endless motor, his development has been nothing short of impressive. Billups demanded to guard the opposing teams best perimeter player in every game and made it a point of stopping them on a consistent basis. His length paired with his lateral quickness makes him a nightmare for athletic wings or short, quicker guards. Billups showcased his athleticism in the open floor with a plethora of powerful dunks.
Julian Reese | 6’9 | St. Frances/Team Thrill
A camp setting isn’t ideal for bigs, but fortunately for Reese, he can make his presence felt from all over the floor. At 6-foot-9, the versatile forward knocked down mid-range and even a few three-point jumpshots at an efficient clip. His shot-blocking presence defensively was dominant at times. Reese also ran the floor at a decent pace considering the amount of games his team played throughout the day.
Malik Missouri | 6’5 | Gilman/Team Thrill
Missouri is a prospect that wins the eye test as a potential low to mid major wing. A 6-foot-5 with a slim but long frame, Missouri’s offensive game comes smoothly for spurts throughout games. He did a nice job of making mid-range shots off the catch, a part of his game that has always been a strong suit. Missouri also ran the floor well and finished strong in transition.
Hassan Massenburg | 6’6 | Poly/Team Melo
I was glad to get a chance to see Massenburg play along with top talent to measure just how much he has improved. He showed progressions in just about every area. One thing you never have to worry about with Massenburg is his effort in running the floor and doing the little things that help teams win. Other then the givens, Massenburg finished well in transition and shot the ball well off of one or two dribbles.
Detwan Montague | 6’8 | Milford Mill/Team Thrill
Montague is another player that is willing to do all of the little things to help his team. He found ways to separate himself throughout the day by consistently running the floor in transition. The result was getting easy looks and outworking his match up in that department. Montague isn’t the most athletic big that will be featured on the floor, but his effort makes him a presence on the glass as well.
Clarence Obiajulu | 6’7 | City/Team Thrill
It had been since the high school season for me seeing Obiajulu in action, but I gathered all good things from the 6-foot-7 four man. Obiajulu continues to put muscle on an already brute frame that allows him to guard much bigger players. He finished strong through contact in the paint and even hit a couple of jumpers from the high-post area, something I rarely have seen him do. He battled and fought to get himself in position for rebounds and made quick outlet passes to guards.
