They’ll be in great position to make it a third title in four years next season though as they return five starters including one of the preseason Mr. Basketball favorites.
GO-TO GUY: Carson Henningsgard
Henningsgard is arguably the best player in Class B North Dakota and heads into his senior year as one of the most decorated players in the state. He averaged 21 points and seven assists a season ago and while those numbers may not move a whole lot, his impact on the game will remain incredibly high. He controls the game as well as any individual player in Class B.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATE: Patrick Limke
There aren’t a lot of logical breakout candidates for H/CV because the Burros return such a big bulk of the producers from last season. The roles aren’t going to change a whole lot. Patrick Limke emerged as a really nice third-option type guy though and with the attention his teammates garner, he will have even more opportunities to pile up 3-point makes next winter.
QUESTION: Is it going to be all on the seniors?
With such a talented senior class pretty much locked and loaded heading into the year, there aren’t a lot of questions surrounding this team. If there is one, it is more about whether or not there will be young players who can emerge and fill roles. Those roles would likely be depth spots and there probably just aren’t a lot of minutes available anyways, but with a senior-heavy group, there is always an eye towards the future and what lies beyond this current group.
OUTLOOK
Hillsboro/Central Valley was arguably the second best team in Class B last season and likely heads into next winter as the No. 1 team. There will be some really good competition at the top from returning state tournament teams like Richland and maybe Beulah, along with top non-state tourney teams like Rugby and Four Winds/Minnewaukan, but the experience coming back for the Burros plus the presence of Henningsgard and Landen Reed make them the team to beat.
