Continue ReadingWe can definitely expect some changes in the Public School Sandhills Athletic Conference as many of the teams have seen some of their players’ graduate which could lead to being a rebuilding year for quite a few. The combination of players graduating and a few players transferring out to different schools only makes the storyline that much more interesting this year.
Pinecrest HS: They lost some players to graduation as well but they return one of the better players in the area in Junior Guard Bradlee Haskell. Haskell is a player that we feel is a D1 caliber prospect without a doubt and played well in some big time matchups last season, combine his PG skills with some of the stellar shooters that they have and you have a recipe for success.
Lumberton HS: They had a scare as it seemed that Star Guard Jordan McNeill would be headed to Word of God Christian for his senior year, but it looks as if he will be back and will finish his final season as a Pirate. McNeill will be a player that’s in the running for Player of The Year honors as he put up some nice numbers last season as a junior with 21 Points & 9 Rebounds per game.
Scotland HS: This should be a good year for Scotland County as they have many of the pieces that you need to make a run in the state tournament. Good guard play, wings that can shoot, defenders and some interior size, are all evident for this group. One player in particular that we believe will have breakout season is Guard Garret Mcrae who has been outstanding each time we have seen him over the past few months.
Purnell Swett: The squad had an up and down season last year but when they were locked in and clicking, they had some nice showings. One of the main players that produced for this squad was 2020 Forward Xavier Jones who put together some monster scoring and rebounding numbers in quite a few games. 33 and 18 vs Hoke County, 15 & 11 vs Jack Britt, and 23 & 13 vs 71st HS are all examples of the type of production we expect from him this season.
Richmond Senior HS: They lost three players to graduation, with two of those players being All-Conference performers so there will be some holes to fill for this team. The positive note is they return a nice amount of talent which includes 6’5 2021 Nygie Stroman who was All-Conference and 6’6 2020 Forward Jarvis Tillman who is a nice talent as well. The defensive intensity that they brought to the floor last season was impressive and we fully expect to see more of that this upcoming season.
Jack Britt HS: This season could actually be a solid season for the Bucs as they return some talent and have some younger players that look like they may be ready to take the next step. 2022 Forward Demetri Patterson is one that we feel should have a breakout year, while 2020 Guard Langston Davis is a player that we are excited to see as well as he will need to step in and take a leadership role for the success of the squad.
Seventy First HS: We got the chance to see them this summer and they pretty much look like a brand new team as they lost the majority of players that contributed in any manner last year. The bright spot for them is that they have inherited 2023 Forward/Center Derrick Green who played with Team CP3 and at New Century Middle School last year. It will be a process of adjustment for him but the upside he has to be special is clear, and the opportunity to come in right away and play will only benefit him.
Hoke County HS: With the loss of the team’s leading scorers to graduation and transfer, this will be a year of youth/rebuilding for them without a doubt. Expect for this squad to have some struggles but this will be a grand opportunity for some younger players to get time on the floor which will only benefit them some years from now.
