This season will be different due to some transfers and graduation but there is a nice amount of talent that will be in this conference.
Westover HS: The Wolverines have to be the early favorite to win the conference, they have offensive firepower, defensive mindset, and always some depth. The main question for many is will Forward Traymond Willis-Shaw come into the season with the mindset to want to dominate every single night. When he’s locked in and focused, he has Conf Player of The Year type potential and could play his way into being a MM prospect.
Pine Forest: This season will be pretty much a new start for Pine Forest as they graduated some talented players that have moved on to play on the college level. However they have some talented underclassmen so they shouldn’t have much of an issue competing on a nightly basis. Look for Senior Guard Marquis Eskew to make a nice impact this season, as he has plenty of the tools to be a standout player.
E.E. Smith: We like the potential of this group as they had some learning experiences last season but the program seems to be headed in the right direction. They return 2021 Guard Demetrius Polk who has shown a nice ability to score the ball, as well as 2020 Forward Jaylen Siermons who can be a double/double guy on a nightly basis when he wants to be.
Overhills: They lost quite a bit of their firepower due to graduation and transfers so it will be interesting to see how things play out. If Senior Guard Jase Ford returns, he will have to put up some monsters numbers to keep this team competitive on a nightly basis.
Cape Fear: We like the core group they have and we know that Coach Kee will have his guys playing to their max potential sooner than later. They have some younger talent that showed some flashes over the last few months and they return one of the leading scorers in the County for public schools in Guard Marquail James.
South View: The Tigers struggled last season and they will once again have some growing pains throughout the year. Their leading scorers were upper classmen so the question of who will step in and produce for them will be need to be answered sooner than later.
Terry Sanford: They return 2020 Forward Yates Johnson and 2022 forward Davis Molnar which will help to produce a night amount of offense. Guard play is a question mark for this group as well as depth coming off the bench, as they lost some valuable guards to transfer and graduation.
Gray’s Creek: Another team that lost their primary scorers as the Bears graduated two that will be going on to play basketball at the college level. They will need some new players to step up and produce which we feel should happen sooner than later for this squad.
