With transfers, injuries and players blossoming, much could change but here is my top-8 of the 24 possible playoff teams for 6A:
1st 8 teams all have a chance for the all important 1st round bye:
Cesar Chavez
-They have a star in Jr Ty Ty Washington, a perfect compliment in Jr guard Ricardo Sarmiento plus stud incoming freshman Tru Washington. They also have many pieces to the puzzle with seniors Greg Evans and Nyjeir Andrews in the middle plus guards Tyraill Carrethers, Latrell Robinson and Latrey Robinson.
Skyline
-They have a senior star PG in Dayton Harris (NAU commit), big man Tanner Poeschl and athletic forward Tyree Tyler. They also have two snipers in soph Dominic Capriotti and Jr Patrick Herrera.
Chandler
-No senior starters but talented Jr’s led by big wing forward Isaiah Broady, true post players Nicholas Riley and Darian Masi, power forward Elijah Johnson and PG Carson Kelly. Also have stud soph PG Mekhi Mason.
Desert Vista
-Stud senior forward Osasere Ighodaro will lead them surrounded by a good cast of players. Jr forward transfer John Solomon from Florida may be the 6A newcomer of the year. Also 3 good guards in Jr’s Malik Mack, Marcus Wady and soph Andrew King.
Perry
-One of the biggest front lines in the state led by soph star Dylan Anderson and Jr post Duke Brennan. Also have Jr PG in Christian Tucker and Sr forwards in Nate Wold and Evan Skeoch plus Jr PG Austin Hutchings.
Hamilton
-Senior guards will lead the way for the Huskies with Jamar Brown, Omar Knight, Christian Valle and Justin Fisher. Also three talented Jr’s in PG Adrian Galindo plus forwards Andrew Hinkle and Jacob Enriquez.
Basha
-A strong young core led by sharp shooter Jr Trenton McLaughlin. Good pieces around him with Sr shooter CJ Noder, Jr PG Thomas Hastings, Soph PF Brady Reynolds and stud incoming freshman F Landon Schumaker.
Chaparral
-3 seniors surrounded by a newcomer of the year candidate with soph Adrame Diongue. Their top interior player for the last two years has been senior Jorden Josephs. Then they have most improved candidate with PG Matthew Whisler. Also have strong senior forward with Cole Buzas. Their bench could be deep with Jr’s G Jevon Humphrey, F Markes Siekam and sharp shooter Will Betteridge. Plus rising soph PG Jalin Humphrey.
