Continue ReadingAlthough the NBA has transitioned from having ‘‘Big 3’s’’ to ‘‘Dynamic Duos’’ we still see a nice amount of teams at the high school level that would be considered big three squads. The majority of these teams feature a combination of young as well as older talent so college coaches should be keeping a close eye on this list.
Farmville Central HS Big 3? Or Fab 4?
We know that this was supposed to be about ‘‘Big 3’s’’ but this squad has 4 legit scholarship players so it’s only right we add an extra slot for them. FCHS is coming off an undefeated once again, which gives them two overall undefeated seasons in the last 3 years as they did the same in the 2015-2016 season.
2020 G Justin Wright: They lose one starter to graduation but basically return the rest of the squad which is flat out scary, beginning with star PG Justin Wright who has a ton of offers and is only getting better as time goes on. Wright can flat out shoot it from deep but is also a crafty ball handler and gifted passer, he has plenty of the tools that you would want from a PG on the next level.
2020 G Samage Teel: One of the players that was overlooked by many before the season started, Teel showed quickly that he is legit and is a player that college coaches should be on. He can score the ball well, knocking down shots from three point land consistently as he showcased NBA range during the season. Mount Olive has already extended a scholarship offer to him and we won’t be surprised to see more schools jump on board.
2021 SG Terquavion Smith got his recruitment process done earlier as he committed to NC State and will bring his usual combination of scoring and toughness to the floor. Smith is the type of player that gives effort on both ends of the floor and it allows his squad to get out into transition for some easy buckets.
2021 F Leontae Moye: At the beginning of the year he was coming off the bench but as time went on, he worked his way up and logged some major minuets for the team down the stretch. He does a nice job of rebounding the ball as well as showcasing his ability to finish above the rim, which is something that has already caught the attention of coaches on the D1 level
Westover HS will have plenty of the pieces needed to make a deep playoff run!
2020 G Isaiah Bridges: Every team needs good PG play and that’s what Bridges brings to the squad, he does all the things that don’t show up on a stat sheet. He has outstanding leadership qualities, doesn’t take plays off, is strong with the ball and has a physique that looks like he already has been in a college weight room.
2020 F Traymond Willis-Shaw: His coming out party happened this summer as he got the opportunity to play in front of D1 coaches with his high school squad and picked up multiple offers. The 6’7 stretch forward has shown the ability to do multiple things on the court on both ends which includes: rebounding, blocking shots, finishing above the rim and knocking down the trey ball. He doesn’t have the largest frame to pack muscle on but he plays with some toughness and an edge to him that you have to like.
2021 G Darius Jewell: His role on the team is clear and it fits exactly what his skillset is as he can knock down the trey ball at a very high rate. He won’t wow you with his stature as he is only about 5’9 but he plays the game with an edge that makes up for whatever size that he may lack. Also he is showing that he is more than just a shooter as we have seen him look to make more plays off the dribble and attack the paint.
Trinity Christian will be young but this C/O 2022 Group has a chance to be special!
This is the youngest group by far, so the upside that they have to grow individually and as a group is something to keep an eye on. Normally TCS is a squad that features a player or two who is already coming into D1 offers as a sophomore, but this group is different, they have loads of potential but will have to prove themselves throughout the year.
C/O 2022 G Jamori McDougald: McDougald battled injuries last season but is a player that we have seen fill it up scoring wise, scoring the ball at a high level is not much of an issue for him. We hate to compare high school players to NBA players but you can see that this young man watched Trae Young play at Oklahoma years back, as he has some of the same characteristics in his game.
C/O 2022 Guard Cam Oates: Oates is a quick guard that can also score the ball well, and should see his usage rate go up quite a bit this season. Oates is much better than his number from last season would suggest and he will get the opportunity to prove it on a big stage this year.
C/O 2022 Guard Freddie Dillone: Last but not least is Guard Freddie Dilione who has already shown the potential to be a D1 prospect but will just need to increase his motor consistently to see his stock rise. He has good size for a guard prospect and there were moments last season where he showed flashes of just how special he could possibly be.
