Playing alongside a handful of high major prospects, Thompson showcased his value as a powerful, yet skilled forward with an big time upside.
Holding 10 scholarship offers, Thompson doesn’t have a list of favorites yet, but says one is beginning to stand out.
“I haven’t really been focusing on my recruitment, because of football, but right now I like Duquesne a lot,” Thompson told Prep Hoops Wisconsin. “I really like their coaching staff. I’m going to take an official visit out there for sure.”
Thompson holds other offers from Bradley, UW-Green Bay, Grambling, Illinois-Chicago, DePaul, UW-Milwaukee, Texas A&M Corpus-Cristi, Toledo, and Missouri State,
Bradley secured Thompson’s first official visit in early August.
“They run their offense through the bigs,” said Thompson. “The coaches pitched to me that they could run their offense through me when I’m a junior or senior, so I really like that about them.”
Thompson added that Green Bay and Milwaukee are also pushing hard for his services:
Green Bay: “I like how their offense is fast. That’s how I like to play. I really like their coaching staff too. They’re probably recruiting me the hardest right now, they were my first offer. They think I can make a big impact right away.”
Milwaukee: “I played with Pat (Patrick Baldwin Jr.) last year, so I built a relationship with his dad (UWM head coach Patrick Baldwin Sr.). They’re pitching the same thing as Green Bay, I can come in and play right away.”
Minnesota, Oregon, and New Mexico are all showing late interest going into Thompson’s senior season.
“I think Minnesota and New Mexico are the most serious,” he said. “They’ve been talking to my coaches a lot about me.”
Thompson, the fifth-ranked senior in Wisconsin’s 2020 class, said he won’t sign in November and plans to play at least part of his senior season before making a decision.
“I want to be part of a family,” he said. “I don’t want to be around guys and coaches I don’t like. I’m mainly focused on being in a family environment. I want to make it to the tournament too.”
