One of my favorite things to do this month is make predictions for the upcoming HS season. With that being said, here are my 4A State Title Predictions:
Top Contenders:
Salpointe Catholic
I think Salpointe Catholic has to be the clear front runner for state this year. They have a very deep team, playoff experience, and probably the best player in 4A, Evan Nelson. I think this is the year Salpointe finally raises that trophy over their head after the past two seasons getting stuck behind Shadow Mountain.
Catalina Foothills
Catalina Foothills may be able to do a little something this year. They are extremely well coached and always seems to do well during the playoffs. I do not necessarily see this squad overthrowing Salpointe, but I think they could make a strong playoff run.
Deer Valley
Coach Dunn is one of the best coaches I’ve ever seen or been around. Now that the Shadow Mountain dynasty is seemingly over, 4A is up for grabs and is wide open. I trust that Coach Dunn will be able to put together a nice season for DV and lead them into a deep playoff run.
Sleeper:
Shadow Mountain
While it seems like everyone has counted Shadow Mountain out, I am not so sure. I certainly see why people think that the team is going to take a huge step back but I still think they will be able to compete in 4A. They still have Elijah Cole and Shemar Morrow and have hired another former NBA player as their coach. While the team has lost a ton, I think they will be able to attract more talent coming in.
