Continue ReadingKobe Young became a statewide name last winter with a really solid high school season for Chiawana (Pasco, WA). Some of the more prominent club programs in the region became aware of his talents, but he decided the stay more local with the Eastern Washington Elite program and it seems to have paid off for him.
By playing with Eastern Washington Elite, Kobe had the opportunity to play on the top 17u team and compete against guys a year or two older than him. ” I had to get more physical and find more ways to score and not just relying on my physical abilities.” Kobe is a standout wide receiver on the football field as well and it is apparent when he is on the hardwood. He is one of the best rebounding guards in Washington and he can really sky through the air to block shots in his 6’5 frame. The one thing that separates Kobe from other high level athletes is his sweet shooting stroke. Kobe is a a very good catch and shoot guy from the perimeter and colleges have begun to take notice.
Recruiting Update:
First Offer- Idaho State
“The Idaho State offer came as a surprise to me, I was at home and coach Looney called me and said if I wanted to come to his school it’d be paid for. I was speechless.”
Other Schools of interest:
Boise State, Washington State, Portland and more.
As far as committing, Kobe says he has no plans or timeline on that. He is letting things unfold and will continue to work on his game in the meantime. The next step for Kobe is working on his ball handling and being more comfortable off the bounce. He is fundamentally sound, so he doesn’t try to do too much, but showing some more creativity off the bounce will suit him well for the next level.
Kobe currently ranks as the 10th best prospect in Washington State, but there could be some movement after the next update. Be on the lookout for further recruitment updates on this summer stock riser as things continue to unfold through the winter!
