6’0 Guard Dylan Blake – First Flight – 2020
Dylan Blake and his First Flight squad return after going 20-9 during the 2018-19 season. First Flight runs an offensive attack that allowed them to attempt over 1,200 3-pointers as a team this past year, sinking 31 percent of those shots. Their top scorer, Reese Jones, is gone after making 114 3-pointers last year but they’ve still got 2020 guard Dylan Blake. Blake is the top returner in 3-pointers made from a season ago. He went 98-for-292 (34 percent) from behind the arc for the Nighthawks and made 3.4 shots per game from 3-point range. He’s a sharpshooter that can create off the catch and off the dribble and is a priority on opposing scouting reports. Blake holds an offer from High Point and Young Harris College.
6’2 Wing/Guard Javonte Waverly – Henderson Collegiate – 2021
Javonte Waverly is a wing with quite the skillset for the Henderson Collegiate Pride. He’s a versatile wing that can guard the 1-3 position as well as knock it down the 3-pointer with efficiency. The rising junior made 80 3-pointers from behind the 3-point stripe in 2018-19 while shooting 34 percent from the line. As a sophomore, he led his team in scoring with 16.6 points per contest. He’ll be on the rise this upcoming season after his team came up short in the 1A State Final Game against Bishop McGuinness.
6’2 Guard Jamari Mann – Granville Central – 2021
The Granville Central Panthers have one of the best backcourts in the conference in Terence Harcum Jr. and Jamari Mann. Mann does his work from behind the 3-point line and above the rim on the break, feeding off of Harcum’s ability to score at volume. Mann produced 15.6 points per game in 2018-19 while draining 73-of-215 field goals from behind the arc. The Panthers will be one of the top teams to beat in their conference with a tough crosstown rival in South Granville. Look for Mann to elevate his game and get some attention from college coaches with his 3-point shooting ability.
5’10 Ethan Wood – Louisburg – 2021
Ethan Wood did well shooting from the 3-point line in his first year on the varsity squad this past season. All but two of Wood’s made field goals came from behind the arc in 2018-19. He shot 72-of-195 (37 percent) from 3-point range at the off-guard position. When he’s dialed in, he certainly has a knack for knocking down triples at a high rate. Wood made a season-best seven 3-pointers to the tune of 21 points in a 72-70 victory over Roanoke Rapids back on Jan. 22. He’s an emerging prospect local programs should keep an eye on.
6’0 Breon Pass – Reidsville – 2021
Breon Pass is a combo guard that’s becoming quite the asset on the hardwood for Reidsville High School. He was one of the top scorers in the HoopState this past year, averaging 22.6 points per game along with 9.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Pass did his scoring from a multitude of ways as he eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau as a sophomore, including from the 3-point line. He shot 48 percent from behind the arc while making 68 total 3-pointers on the season. He’s an emerging sharpshooter to watch that’s already generated offers from Elon, East Carolina and NC State.
5’10 Guard Jaylen Perry – Bunn – 2020
Jaylen Perry is a sharpshooting guard to keep an eye on in the Northern Carolina Conference. He nearly doubled his output from behind the arc in 2018-19, making 67 3-pointers after making just 36 during his sophomore season. As a senior leader on the Bunn High School squad, he’ll be looked upon to make plays in 2019-20, especially from behind the arc. He put up 10.5 points per game this past year while shooting 34 percent from 3-point range. With an experienced backcourt, look for him to make waves as a sharpshooter.
6’1 Cole Sinclair – Durham Academy – 2021
Cole Sinclair is one of a few prospects from Durham Academy that can fill it up from behind the arc. Of course, there’s M.J. Rice, who can do it all and there’s Toby Harris emerging on the wing. Everything starts and stops with the success of Sinclair, though. He’s not the quickest guard but he controls the pace well with his ability to knock down the 3-ball. He shot 50 percent from behind the arc in 2018-19 while making 98 3-pointers for Durham Academy this past season. With his ability to defend and create off the dribble, he’s a sharpshooter to keep an eye on this upcoming season.
