It takes plenty of time, effort and dedication to be the one team that’s left standing at the end of the year so to try and win two in a row is something that very few can do. We take a look at some of the team that will try and pull off what not too many team have in the past, which is winning two state championships in two years.
Farmville Central: An undefeated season with basically only one player leaving your team to graduation, automatically puts you in the mix for talks of a repeat. FCHS will be the favorite in 2A as they return one of the better backcourts in the state of Justin Wright & Terquavion Smith the NC State commit. This team is not only a winning squad but also a fun team to watch as they play at a fast pace and are constantly making plays above the rim.
Bishop Mcguinnes: They come into the new season looking somewhat different than last year as they have lost several players to graduation but they return a nice core group. Guard Jake Ledbetter is back for his senior year as well as some of their Forwards that provided rebounding and interior defense. They won a lot of close games last season which should only benefit them moving forward as they have seen and battled through different types of adversity on the court.
The Greenfield School: They return the majority of their starters from last season which includes: Wake Forest commit 2020 Guard Djimon Bailey & sharp shooting guard Creighton Lebo. 2020 Forward Trey Pittman, a player who has seen a boost in his recruitment over the past months, will also be a player that we feel will put up some nice numbers this year. The attribute that made Greenfield impressive was there unselfishness, they moved the ball well and made the most of out the numerous weapons that they had.
Fayetteville Academy: Anytime you lose one of the top guards in the state, a D1 big and a D2 Forward all to graduation, you know it’s going to be an uphill battle for the next season. Well that’s somewhat the case for Fayetteville Academy except for the fact that have been able to bring in some talent via transfer that should help them. 2022 Guard Cinque Lemon & 2022 Forward Truman Clayton are two of the players that transferred in, while 2022 Wing Amari Pearson returns from last year’s squad and should have a larger role.
Greensboro Day: They have to be the early favorite to repeat as champs at the NCISAA 3A level, even though they have lost some size, they return a high amount of talent and have picked up one of the top scorers in the state by transfer. We always hear that defense wins championships, and that’s truly the case for this squad as they are consistently one of the better defensive teams around. UVA commit Carson McCorkle, 2021 Guard Cam Hayes and new 2021 transfer Brock Williams are all players that should have some big time games this year.
