Fresh off reclaiming the 5A state title with Wilsonville, the athletic 6-foot-6, 185-pound forward went straight into AAU basketball and spent the next few months travelling around the country – and beyond – playing high-level hoops. Offers come in as a result and Reber is now looking forward to helping the Wildcats defend their trophy.
Playing with International Elite again this spring and summer, Reber reflected on the experience. “This summer went pretty good, I liked playing with Nate (Bowie) and International (Elite),” Reber said. “We played some pretty good teams especially in the Mullens tournament (in Texas). I feel like I played pretty good but I still have a lot to work on still. I was shooting a lot better but I definitely need to keep working on decision making and ball-handling.”
Many college programs took notice of Reber’s continued perimeter development. In fact, Colorado Christian, Concordia, and Western Oregon saw enough to offer the rising senior a scholarship. Reber noted that Point Loma Nazarene and Metro State in Denver have also been in close contact as well.
Division I appears to still be the goal for Reber as he spent some time at camps this summer at Portland State, Seattle, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton. As a result, he’s not planning on making any decisions on his college future anytime soon. “I’m probably going to wait as long as possible to see what happens,” Reber said.
The hope is a big senior year might open more doors. Wilsonville graduated point guard Jack Roche so more load will be placed on Reber’s shoulders, but he’s ready to take the floor with fellow seniors Gabe Reichle and Keegan Shivers and give another title run a great shot.
“I think it should be a fun year,” Reber said. “If we come together and play our best, we will be able to play with anyone.”
Reber currently ranks as the #4 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
