The athletic 6-foot-5, 190-pound wing from Churchill High School was one of the select few already holding a scholarship offer from the Wolves and he got a chance to show his stuff against some really good competition in front of the coaching staff. In essence it was an unofficial visit to campus for Goracke and it was an experience well worth the trip.
“I really enjoyed this camp and it was really well run and competitive,” Goracke said. “The coaching staff is very intense and tney know what they are doing.”
The camp was a bit of a wrapup to what was a very busy off-season for Goracke. He attended several camps and ran one more time with Elite 24/Cascadia Hoops in top tournaments across the country. Goracke wanted to work on several parts of his game and consider that accomplished.
“My summer was good,” Goracke said. “With development I’ve been working on ball-handilng and the pick-and-roll because I’ll be playing the three spot or the two in college. I’ve also been working on decision making and reading defenses.”
To nobody’s surprise, Goracke started picking up scholarship offers late in the summer. Point Loma was the first to offer since then Western Oregon and Colorado Christian have come on board. “It’s a pretty fulfilling feeling because you work for so long,” Goracke said. “You get the offer and then it’s like kind of a reward but you’re not done yet. But it’s an opportunity to continue playing and get better.”
Goracke has started to work on his recruitment now that the bulk of playing is done this summer. He’s set up an official visit to Point Loma on September 12-14. Northwest Nazarene and Missouri-Kansas City are looking at making home visits this fall and Goracke noted that he wouldn’t be surprised if they made offers as well. With so much evolving with his recruitment, is the rising senior looking to sign early?
“I’m looking to take my time – I want to make the right decision so I don’t want to rush,” Goracke said. “I’m hoping to have a top three or at least a good place to go by like Christmas-time.”
With a commitment not imminent, Goracke is honed in on his last year of high school basketball. Like many others at Churchill, his expectations are high. “We’re going to be good and I think we have a good chance at winning the championship,” Goracke said. “Making it all the way there last year and just falling short, we’ve got a little extra motivation this year.”
Goracke currently ranks as the #5 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
