Puetz, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, averaged better than 13 points per game as a junior, helping the Tigers win 22 games and reach the second round of the section tournament. He spent the grassroots season playing with the MN Comets where he had a chance to play with elite players and against elite level competition.
“It was fun,” said Puetz. “It’s a great program. Lewis is a great coach and I met a lot of great guys. I’m very thankful to have had that experience. The competition pushes you to get better. In the summer, that’s my time to really push myself and play against guys who might be longer than me or faster than me. It shows me everything I need to work on and get better at.”
There aren’t a lot of things on the court Puetz can’t do. He’s a solid slasher and can score effectively from the mid-range and the 3-point line. He’s improving his finishing ability inside. He’s a solid passer. And his defense is strong as he’s got the length, strength and athleticism to defend multiple positions on the floor.
“I’ve improved a lot at finishing in the paint,” said Puetz. “I’m at my best when I’m aggressive and attacking.”
Puetz has been well-known in southwest Minnesota for a few years now and has certainly drawn the eyes of plenty of college coaches. He wants to go to school to be an anesthesiologist.
“I want to make sure I like the campus and the town around it,” said Puetz. “I want to major in biology. I’m focused on taking visits right now. I’ve talked with Southwest State, Bemidji; Moorhead. I just started talking with University of Sioux Falls, Northern Michigan, Berry University and St. Johns a bit.”
