Recruiting Report: Josiah Hardy (2020)
Josiah Hardy, a class of 2020 forward from Gonzaga College High School, has steadily improved over the years. We saw evidence of this throughout the spring and summer where he was a standout on the grassroots circuit with the District Basketball Club. Prep Hoops caught up with Hardy as he prepares to embrace a leadership role heading into his senior year. He discussed this and much more during a recent interview.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?
JH: “For those that haven’t seen me play, I would say that I am a wing that has a high IQ and brings intensity on the defensive end. Offensively, I’m able to knock down the mid-range shot, get downhill to finish around the rim, and create for others.”
PH: What’s something you do on the court that won’t show up on the stat sheet?
JH: “Something that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet are all the little things that I do. Whether it’s boxing out, setting good screens, talking on defense, deflections, or winning the 50/50 plays.”
PH: Describe your role for the upcoming high school season.
JH: “My role this upcoming season is going to be the guy that brings energy on both ends on the court and provide senior leadership.”
PH: Who is recruiting you?
JH: “Recently I’ve been recruited by VMI, Holy Cross, Mount St. Mary’s, and Navy.”
PH: What schools have you visited? What schools do you want to visit?
JH: “I’ve visited Mount St. Mary’s earlier this year, and I was also able to see a little bit of VMI recently. I’m open to visiting other schools but nothing scheduled as of yet.”
PH: What factors are important to you in when considering schools? What do you want to study?
JH: “Some important factors that come to play in my decision making for a school is a school that has great academics. I’m also looking for a school whose basketball program has a high energy staff and gives me that family type feeling. I would like to study entrepreneurship/business law.
PH: What are your goals?
JH: “My short-term goal right now is to get my body into top peak shape and help my team win the WCAC championship. My intermediate goal is to go to college for free and play there. My long-term goal is to be able to start my own business and be able to take care of my family.”
PH: What can you bring to a college program?
JH: What I bring to a college program is a hardworking player that will be respectful on and off the court. I also would bring intensity every single time I touch the floor.
