Josh Akers, a class of 2020 guard from Archbishop Spalding High School, is considered one of the best shooters you will find throughout the state of Maryland. There’s more to his game than that, however. During a recent interview with Prep Hoops, Akers broke down his overall game, recruitment and goals among other topics.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?
JA: “I can distribute the ball well to my teammates if I’m running the 1, but my game mostly revolves around shooting. I can really open the floor for everyone when I’m on the court. I’ll just put all my effort on the floor every time I’m out there.”
PH: What is your role for the upcoming season?
JA: “To be a leader for my team as an upcoming senior. I think that’s going to be big.”
PH: What are you working on?
JA: “I’m working more on becoming a better and stronger defender. And for my offensive game, I’m working on my pull up.”
PH: Who is recruiting you?
JA: “Hood college, St Mary’s college of MD, Mount Aloysius, and Albright. I’ve been to University of Charleston for the camp and going to Shepherd and Millersville camp later this month.”
PH: Which schools have you visited?
JA: “Hood and St Mary’s I’ve visited.”
PH: What are your goals? What do you want to study in college?
JA: “My goals are getting stronger as a player. I feel like that will help my game tremendously. I want to study business in college.”
PH: What can you bring to a college program?
JA: “What I can bring to a college program is a lot of heart while I’m out on the court. A coachable player that’s going to take in everything my coaches say. Someone that can open the floor up for his team a lot.”
