Recruiting Report: Jamal Barnes (2020)
Jamal Barnes a class of 2020 wing from St. Stephens & St. Agnes School, has been a key contributor on the court for one of the top programs in the area while handling his business in the classroom. With a 3.4 GPA and 1200 SAT Score, Barnes does not lack for high quality options at the next level. During a recent interview with Prep Hoops, he discussed his overall game and recruitment among other topics.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, describe your game.
JB: “If you haven’t seen me play, I play really well shooting from 3, midrange off the dribble and using driving lanes to find teammates if not open layups”
PH: What was the transition like for you heading into AAU season from high school
JB: “From high school into AAU the biggest change is I had to dribble and rebound more for my team’s success.”
PH: Describe one thing you do on the court that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet
JB: “One thing that doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet is my defense. I actually enjoy applying full court pressure and causing turnovers.”
PH: What is the most improved part of your game in recent months?
JB: “The ability to create shots for myself. After deciding to dribble more and getting comfortable, I started finding ways to get to my spots on offense.”
PH: What are you working on?
JB: “I’m working on my body and ball handling.”
PH: Who’s recruiting you?
JB: “I’ve been talking to UNC Wilmington, Brown, UMD Eastern shores, & Yale.”
PH: Which schools have you visited? Which schools do you plan to/want to visit?
JB: “I want to visit UNC Wilmington, and Brown, though I haven’t gone on any visits yet.”
PH: What’s the timetable like for your recruitment?
JB: “I’m undecided on when I’m going to commit.”
PH: What factors are important in your college decision?
JB: “I want to go to a school where I am wanted. Where I can grow to be a better player & man.”
PH: What can you bring to a college program?
JB: “To a college program, I can bring a defensive presence, a will to win, and the will to do whatever it takes.”
