Recruiting Report: Jalen Miller (2021)
Scan through the list of point guards in the local 2021 class, and you won’t find many who can match the resume of Jalen Miller. He has spent each of the last two years as the starting point guard for Coach Dan Prete at Bishop Walsh and St. James during which he gained valuable experience while competing against some of the best guards in the country. Now a junior, the expectations for Miller to lead the team and produce on a nightly basis have increased.
“This summer I’ve been working mainly on my jump shot. Catch and shoot from three. I’ve already had the mid range in my game,” Miller told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “Obviously I’m a great defender. That’s just pride. I’m a smart point guard with great court vision. I’m always going to do what’s best for my team. Whether it’s time for me to score or get the hot player involved.”
Miller’s recruitment has picked up since the summer when college coaches initially became permitted to contact 2021 prospects. He’s received offers from Bryant and Stony Brook. Miller has also visited GW, Lehigh, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and most recently Stony Brook.
“The visit at Stony Brook was good. I like the coaches a lot,” he said of his recent visit. “Campus was good. I talked to the team a little bit. Everybody seems nice. They said the engineering program is good. That’s what I’m looking for, Mechanical Engineering.”
In order to attain his goals, Miller continues to test himself both physically and mentally. He mentioned waking up early during the offseason to run hills, lift weights, and workout multiple times per day to prepare for rigors of the upcoming season.
“I’m going to keep working. Try to change my body a little bit. Get more athletic, and get ready for the high school season.”
Jalen Miller is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-10 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2021 class, click here.
